Microsoft considers its mission statement a promise to its customers. Microsoft delivers on that promise by striving to create technology that is accessible to everyone—regardless of age or ability. Microsoft leads the industry in accessibility innovation and in building products that are safer and easier to use. Accessible technology is particularly helpful for individuals who experience visual difficulties, pain in the hands or arms, hearing loss, or cognitive challenges. In USA, among adult computer users; one in four users has a vision difficulty, one in four has a dexterity difficulty and one in five has a hearing difficulty.

However, there is a minority of people who cannot access this technology, or utilize it due to disability. Microsoft has grown into an enormous and powerful corporation by a combination of aggressive business practices and having written operating systems (DOS and Windows) for personal computers. From operating systems it branched out into other software which has, along with the operating system, become something of an industry standard.
With new technology comes new ways to let disabilied people use more items. An example is, voice recognition screen readers can help peole who are blind. For instance, eye-tracking programs can make using computers simple for people who can´t move their hands.
Microsoft attempts to incorporate the accessibility into design, planning, development, documentation, testing and research (Microsoft, 1). The strategy of accessibility is to continue longstanding leadership and commitment in arising innovative solutions. Moreover, they focus on their strategy of making their computers’ easy and utilize by developing accessibility into Microsoft services and products. According to the Australian Department of Social Services (2012), web accessibility is not just about making sure websites are usable for those with disabilities’; it is about making sure that a website can be used by as many people as is possible. This could include making sure websites are accessible for people on a variety of different devices, those with impaired abilities, the elderly, and people from a different cultural backgrounds who may struggle with the native language (W3C, 2005). Stephen Hawking is one of the smartest people alive today, but he can’t talk and has minimal movement in his body. Some might have said that he wouldn’t be able to communicate any more, but they were wrong. Our technology has evolved to the point where he can use a speaking aid. As you can see, this is a very extreme case of assistive technology. But what about the other side of the spectrum, where people need help but not to that extreme, like people with ADHD, ADD, or autism? I think Microsoft needs to begin researching and innovating to create assistive technology for those individuals.
