Military Spending

As citizens of the United States of America we must pay taxes to the government. The government takes these taxes and distributes them among different areas to fund each are; one of the highest percentages of spending goes to defense. The whopping amount of around 610 billion dollars makes the United States’ military the largest in the world, so large that its funding out-weighs the next seven highest spending countries. The problem with this is that the military does not really solve the large amount of very important domestic affairs; in fact we barely see the fruits of it. There are many reasons why we should cut down on the percentage spent on defense and focus more on other areas.

When the terrorist attacks occurred on 9/11 it did more than just affect the comfort level of American citizens. It had an all around impact on how this country will be run for years to come. The one economic impact that I will concentrate on is that the attacks, arguably, but directly effected the U.S. GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and how the national budget will be handled from that day forward.

Some americans say that nations hinge on each other, while others say they also compete with one another. This gives rise to rivalry, which sometimes leads to war. Some wars emerge from differentiation in race, religion and culture. Due to the evolution of technology in an accelerated pace, highly sophisticated weapons are now available for use in wars. Wars also bring about widespread destruction, disrupt communication and hamper commerce. Thus, they cause heavy financial loss and great suffering to people. The United States depends on their military to protect them from all different kinds of threats like cyber warfare or terrorist attacks.

With the transition of a new President and Administration one can only think of how our economy will be in the next four years. America is a melting plot therefore we are not always going to agree on where Government spends our money. Some support more spending on education and new construction for roads while others support a less involved government. We have seen in the past that when there’s a high level of government spending our economy blooms. We can benefit from this because we have more move to spend and put back into the economy.

I believe that the United States should not spend any more time, money, nor effort on the military than they already have done because they should be spending more time on repairing the amount of national debt they have instead of being the “police of the world.” They are already a step ahead in the game with the advanced military technology, but continue to neglect education and health care for the rest of the country, for examples the veterans who are homeless. They should cut the amount of money and amount of troops out there when they could be here and safe.

The United States is spending huge amounts of money on military defense when there are other problem areas in our society that are in need of more funding.

Spending power is the power of the federal governments to use or spend their resources in any area, even in areas of provincial jurisdiction in which conditions for provinces to follow can be applied. The spending power of the federal government can be seen as an invasive but necessary step to achieving policy goals and national ambitions without imposing a severe financial burden on the provinces, this allows Canada to be viewed as a “textbook best-practice system of fiscal federalism” (Ouiment, 2014).

The military is responsible for protecting an entire world of people, not just the United States as some like to believe. People, especially Americans, tend to criticize these responsibilities, yet the military is still fighting for every single one of their freedoms and democracy. Negative reports of the few individuals in the military cause the entire military to seem untrustworthy and unreliable, which is part of the reason that the military doesn’t get the funds it needs to be able to support itself or the roles that those in the military play. The people definitely do not support the military as much as they should, especially for what the men and women of this country are risking their lives for every single day just to make sure that

Funding is allocated for training by congress through a centralized funding agreement which is distributed among the fifty states and territories based on their training needs. The National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C. will provide the states United States Property and Fiscal Offices (USPF&O) funding based on its yearly requirements (Department of the Army, 2013). As a result, the funding for the leadership development plan and implementation will be budgeted and paid for through the Training and Operations department out of the State of Mississippi’s budget. Therefore, the earlier in the fiscal year the plan can be proposed, the earlier the funding will be allocated.

It implies that war can be justified under strict circumstances where it can be necessary, but it is still abhorrent. War is defined as a state of armed conflict between different countries or different groups within a country. Justification refers to the action of showing something to be right or reasonable. The problem consists on the countries that are selling weapons to countries that are in the middle of conflicts and will use the weapons to harm people. The countries that sell the most arms are China, France, the USA, Germany, Russia and the UK.

This essay intends to define and give an overview of the ‘Principles of War', the philosophers that coined these principles and with examples from the various countries that used and have their own perspectives on the ‘Principles of War'.
