Mission Statement:
The mission statement of a company is the first step in the strategic management framework (Okumus). It is a statement that briefly describes the purpose for the existence of the company, in other words, why the company was created. This statement is important to the success of an organization because it is the foundation that organizational plans, strategies, and decisions are made from. The mission statement of a company communicates to it stakeholders about a company’s products, services, targeted customers, geographic markets, philosophies, and values and plans for future growth (strategic management insight). Below is the current mission statement of Coca-Cola:

Over all the mission statement of Coca-Cola does not explain to its stakeholders the reason for the company’s creation clearly enough to be the focus of the company. This could cause problems when the company is formulating strategies, planning for the future, or making daily decisions that should be guided by the purpose of the company. Since Coca-Cola does not have its mission statement clearly defined it could be seen as a threat on a SWOT analysis because this ultimately can affect the company. Employees within the company may interrupt the mission statement differently and therefore implement a plan of action that does not meet up with the purpose of the company resulting in damage to the stakeholders.
Vision Statement/Goals:
Where the mission statement is there to clearly state the purpose of the creation of the business the vision statement is created to state the ultimate goals of the company. In this assignment I will be exploring what missions statements are, ethos and the values the schools set to reflect their vision. Mission: this means that is it a statement of what an organisation is focusing on and why they want to do it. An example of a mission statement; “Our vision is to create a school community where children participate, excel and are proud of their achievements…” set by Round Hill primary school. Schools create mission statements in order to set themselves a Goal to reach for, a goal in which everyone will learn from it and gain an experience, because the statement they have set is creating them a vision to aim for.
Mission & Vision: The mission statement is about the company purpose and what the company stands for, while the vision is about where the company sees itself in the far future.
As the authors Dess, McNamara, and Eisner pointed out in the text book, the mission statements is " a set of organizational goals that includes the purpose of the organization, its scope of operations, and the basis of its competitive advantage". (p.26) In other words, a mission statement communicates why the firm exists and how they are going to respond to their stakeholders. Odyssey I also believe that upholding your company mission statement will determine if you will be employed or unemployed. We work in two different environments you are dealing with patient care and I work in a call center that requires working with different types of personalities. In dealing with patients your mission statement is to provide quality client services and my mission statement is giving debt collection a good name. We both have to keep our customers

Coca-Cola’s mission statement is as follows: “Our Roadmap starts with our mission, which is enduring. It declares our purpose as a company and serves as the standard against which we weigh our actions and decisions.
Coca-Cola's strategic framework is based around what the company terms its "2020 Vision", a play on words that implies the company's mission and vision are both forward-thinking and clear. The mission statement is actually three mission statements: "To refresh the world, to inspire moments of optimism and happiness, and to create value and make a difference" (Coca-Cola Company, 2012). A mission statement should describe the overall purpose of the organization. It should convey the company's products, services, markets and may include elements of the company's strategy. The wording should also separate the organization from other organizations (McNamara, n.d.).
The effective mission statement gives people a sense of direction to profitability and the inspiration to feel they are part of the bigger part of the goals of the business. Effective mission statements balance the possible and the impossible (Welch, 2005, p.15). Setting the mission statement is top managements responsibility to set the goals of the company every year. The mission statement represents the enduring character, values, and purpose of the organization in the present work place.

Every successful business has to define itself. A business can’t survive in today’s competitive world without a clear identity: a story of who, why, what, when, where, and how. A vision statement is a tool for telling a part of this story, helping to define the business.
