I had exceeded the Maximum Credits for SAP requirements. I started college after graduated from high school. I was taken many classes at once and had withdrawal them because I was overwhelmed. I did not learn how to balance school and work; therefore, my grades dropped. I transferred to Louisiana State University Shreveport for summer classes in 2011. My grades dropped quickly, and it was too late withdrawal the classes. Reality did not strike home until I failed my classes. I had let myself down for failing my classes and overall my college experience. I began to take college seriously and started a goal for myself. During five years at LSUS, I balanced school and work. I had taken two or three classes, and my job worked around
I realized that, I was nowhere near the certain amount of credits need to graduate. With that information, I was told that I was going to get kicked off the badminton team and I was not allowed to continue breakdancing because of my poor grades. The things I loved doing were starting to affect me because of how poorly I was doing in school. I was starting to feel left out because I was not serious about my education which led to not being able to do certain things. So I began to make up all my work and attend school everyday. Within a month, I was able to raise my GPA from a 1.6 to a
Me and her calculated to having 20 credits for the following term. I thought that having that amount of credit was a lot to handle, but I was determined to try to do it. I was willing to do anything to try to keep my scholarship and financial aid because that’s been helping me pay for my books and tuition. Close to the end of the term. I was struggling with one class because of the amount of homework load I had in one class. I decided to talk to the professor, Dean Braa, and he said that I would not be able to pass the class and be given an F. I knew then that I couldn’t afford to get another F in my transcript when I was already trying to make up for the other F in Writing 135. After careful consideration, I decided to drop the class with a W. However, I was 3 credits short and I knew right there that I lost my scholarship and financial aid; I was devastated. I went back to talking to Sheree about what had happened and she discussed about how there is still a chance to appeal for my scholarship. I’m hoping that this coming up fall term I can do better in time management and
Going to school along with having a job can be arduous to balance. Working for five hours, three or four days a week can cause some hindrances. For instance, when I work until about nine on a Wednesday night and have to go home and study for two tests, it causes me to have to stay up late which consequently results in losing sleep. Even though this is a disadvantage when it comes to having a job, I've learned to adjust so that I'm able to accommodate it all. This also has permitted me to develop superior time management and multitasking skills.
Once I left high school in 1992, I attended the Sawyer School for Business. With class to finish, I found out that I was pregnant and having problems. Because of my pregnancy problems, I had to leave school. I didn’t graduate because I
I didn't have an idea of the financial aid requirements entailed till it was too late. Freshmen and sophomore year were a year of trials and tribulations. Completing approximately 12 out of 38 credits mostly due to the fact I was moving my schedule around to fit my schedule and losing multiple family members and getting diagnosed with ADHD and depression by the DRES department, I had so much to deal with that I found myself struggling. I wasn't able to redeem myself after I got my warning because even though I completed all that I registered for, I would still get my financial aid suspended. I have had to appeal ever since I got my warning because of extenuating circumstances such as deaths in the family and disabilities and other times because I had to because even though I complete every class I attempted for the previous semesters excluding fall 2015, I won't make the completion rate because I dropped so many classes freshmen year first semester.
The result was horrendous to be an understatement, I soon saw myself in poor academic standing and with financial aid out of my grasp, I made the difficult decision to withdraw and return to my hometown. I never felt so disappointed in myself and scared for what my future would hold that day. I did not know if I would ever have the opportunity to return or whether I would have an opportunity such as that in my grasp again. I took a year off afterwards to work and to find the motivation, drive and identity that I lost as a student which many hold at that young age. I did enroll in my local community college, Gavilan College. I began taking courses that I needed to take to transfer to a university and took one semester at a time. I am now nearing the end of my junior college career and have improved tremendously in my ability to manage e my time and pass my courses at a much higher level than when I was at
Getting to this point in my academic career has been a balancing act. I spent most of my time as a part time student earning my Associates while working full time. Getting the most out of my education was always my primary goal and it meant working hard and managing my time well. I graduated with Faculty Honors and am currently progressing towards graduating Cum Laude at Western. I was able to not only take a heavy course load, but manage it well and remained flexible and grounded in the reality of what I could handle. Determined to expand my knowledge I wanted to not only to take a variety of courses during early undergraduate work, but as I
College has been my priority. I want to continue my education by attending Cal State East Bay to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and my Master’s Degree in Public Administration. My career goal after I obtain both of my degrees is to work for the city of Santa Ana where I can serve my city where I grew up. Throughout my two years at Santa Ana College, I faced difficult family circumstances that conflicted with my studies, but challenged me to continue with my education regardless of the hardships. I remember some day during the first week of instructions on my first semester at Santa Ana College I broke down in tears in front of my family in my backyard because I was
My failure to meet SAP is strictly on me, I refuse to blame anybody else for the mistakes that I made. My first year of college has been a very new experience and an eventful one. As time progressed I learned what to do and what not to do. I started school without a clue of what I should be studying and I was always told that “You have time to figure it out” that statement began to feel overused and untrue. There were times during the semester where I felt absolutely lost because I had no idea what the end of the road looked like. My classes were very general and made me feel as if I wasn’t doing anything that could benefit my career. As the second semester came to an end and I was ready to select my classes for the fall term, at that point
My academic career stared in aerospace and ocean engineering. Where I struggled to understand and comprehend the work. I foolhardily thought I could continue with the major, because it was my dream at the time. I spent many of credit hours taking and retaking classes in a feudal attempt to advance in the program. My grades and GPA suffered. My GPA fell to a 1.63 before my first suspension. In my time off from school I found I enjoyed dealing finance and other monetary ideas. So when I returned I started to take business courses. I was doing fairly well in those courses. Bringing my GPA from a 1.63 to a 1.98 in the period. I ended up not doing well enough in one class to stop from being forced into a second
Long hours studying outside of class while stressing, asking myself “is this education really worth my time and effort”. At those moments I was unsure whether to continue my education. It seemed like working was just an easier option. The beginning of my senior year in high school I managed to take 4 AP classes as I was working 20+ hours a week and trying to accomplish all of college/scholarship
