The NL310 course has thus far presented me with a variety of topics, but the discussion about cognitive biases have resonated with me the most. I believe it has made a profound impact on me because I did not realize before how vulnerable I was to biases such as framing, confirmation trap, and the anchoring effect. Of these three biases, I think confirmation trap has the biggest influence on me. I sometimes find that when working with other mids, I look for information to confirm what I believe about them, usually regarding negative things . This has gotten me into situations in which I find it hard to sometimes find the good in people although I know it exists. The course has had the largest impact on me outside of the classroom with the intentional
As a Napa Valley College student, I’ve successfully taken several business-related courses in accounting, economics, business law, public speaking, and computer systems that are similar to courses I will be taking at the University of California. Despite rigorous course loads (16 units on average), I’ve found success in my courses using resources such as “Google Calendar” to help me time manage, forming study groups with classmates, and forming connections with instructors whom I’ve received academic support from. In addition, by experiencing success in my courses and grasping the concepts taught, I began using my knowledge to serve other students by volunteering to tutor in math, accounting and economics courses. By doing so, I’ve strengthened my understanding of the different concepts in those subjects and have successfully retained the information by reviewing it with others. Furthermore, I’ve taken

I believe that I deserve a solid A in English 250 because I have worked very hard in this course and learned many valuable information that will be useful later in my life. Especially this summer because I will be taking a speech class at a community college. I have grown in the learning aspect of this English course, but also in many other areas as well like speaking up in class which I don’t normally do in my other classes due to the number of students and I am just a shy person. Also in this course, I get to work with others in small groups and be a team player from participating in the group discussions and sharing my thoughts about a certain topic. I have been able to analyze many parts of grammar and resources that have urged me to further
As our goal with collateral was to make the most impact, it was important for us to understand our audience and their tastes. For instance, information on program pamphlets needed to contain appropriate information. Length was also a key control factor in all my work. Since our events are designed to be a light and fun experience, the vibe had to match the writing we produced. Hence, at least for us, less was more. In addition, the class that has added the most value to my experience has been Teamwork and Negotiations. There are so many aspects to cooperation one cannot fully learn through reading a textbook. Working for a semester on multiple projects with the focus of developing a strong team has been phenomenal in learning the soft skills required to be an effective follower and leader. Humans are complicated beings. There is rarely an isolated causal relationship. Knowing there is not just one factor but a combination has made me a better listener and improved my intuitiveness. Additionally, it has helped me stop stereotyping people. As a result, the coursework has equipped me with transferable skills required of any typical worker who is required to work well both independently and in
When I signed up for LIS 6080, I honestly thought I was not going to learn much because I use computers a lot. I was wrong. I found that this course, with the textbook, discussions with fellow classmates, and the Professor, I learned a lot that I can build upon and use as an information professional. Libraries are becoming leaders in new technologies as they integrate new web and mobile technologies for its users. With these new technologies, information professionals will need to understand these technologies, to provide assistance for these technologies, and to be prepared to interact with patrons using these technologies. LIS 6080 is the course that has set the foundation for my future career as an information professional. This course
This class has helped my writing in the way that I now try to think of the
In the beginning, I felt as this English course was just another typical course with the purpose of allowing students to write more essays without the use of creativity and acuity. However, as I ventured deep into the course, I found my original opinion to be biased. Throughout my spiritual journey in ENGL 1304, I not only learned many concepts and new ideas along the way, but I was also able to connect with all my readings. From researching my online sources to constructing a coherent argument, I grasp the process of communicating my voice for each assignment through careful observation and visualization. As a result, I was able to write my essays in a more personal manner. It also led me to stray away from the concept of “just writing anything
Cognitive Impact: The cognitive impact this course had on me is allowing for me to learn how to read information thoroughly, process it, and put it in my own words. My problem solving skills has also gotten better. Additionally, before this course I really did not know how to handle stressful situations. As I read different sections of the book that discussed
This was what influened me a lot the philosophy, from any other electives course and general education courses because, I understood the real philosophy of life. All other courses, I learned alot, but somehow, this connected me and my life. These courses are really helpful in my daily life’s and I have used my skills and tact knowledge that I got from this program.
Biases. I realized that knowing about biases does not protect me against them. This assignment made me recognize how easily the biases (in my case, the confirmation bias) can undermine my judgment, perception, and reasoning. Based on the consumer’s physical attributes and the way he presented himself, I formed an initial belief and an expectation that Rodney had a positive self-concept. Even when the test results clearly indicated that the consumer’s view of himself was negative, I was still committed to my cognitive impression and I recalculated the scores twice, to make sure I had not made an error and misconstrued his profile.
All of my courses have enhanced my understanding of how the US health care system is designed, and how it functions. I have gotten a clearer glimpse into how it is supposed to work, in theory, though I am aware of some the pitfalls of the system, in practice. But I would say my coursework in HCA 6200 (US Heatlh Care System), HCA 6275 (Evolution of Managed Care) have enhanced my awareness of the social, economic, political factors affecting the practice of healthcare professionals. They have affected my understanding of how these factors influence the design of the system in which healthcare professionals work, and the daily context in which their profession has a function.
With the growing number of college courses that we will be taking this and next year, a course such as this has benefited me an improved my course-taking skills. These skills are extremely useful in any college class and will assist in my development and education now and in the future. These skills and lessons have improved my studying, my work habits, my mental attitude, among many other characteristics, and these skills have improved my schoolwork in general.
This course has affected my development as a student in many ways. It has taught me the importance of being stress free. I have learned that using the time and stress management tools and strategies has helped me get closer to my goals. Achieving my goals depends mainly on me and being less stressful. Time and stress management go hand to hand and one doesn’t work without the other. I learned to become better at time management. This has allowed me to get more important task done and put off the not so important ones. This course has prepared me very well for my academic success. It has taught me about my learning styles and what works best for me. Although I’m a visual/ auditory learner, I sometimes find myself wanting to take things hands on. These are some of the things that has affected me in my development as a student.
