Persuasive Essay On Teenage Pregnancy

Reality shows that are based on teen pregnancy like 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom sheds light about the troubles on becoming a teen parent, finishing high school and struggling to buy the baby’s need and wants. Lately, these shows are stirring a debate if they are trying to support or avoid teen pregnancy. And this topic is important to the public, because it relates to the young community’s future. Young girls and boys can watch these shows and have different outlooks about having a child. Sometimes, glamorizing teen pregnancy on television might confuse the young community, because they can be fickle at times. They might think it is acceptable to be pregnant so young and others will consider waiting until marriage. Reality shows can either encourage or discourage teen pregnancy based on the individual’s mentality.

Many individuals fail to understand the sheer magnitude of bloodshed, tribulation, and despair legalized abortion has initiated into the human experience – both in the United States and worldwide. Far more human lives have been violently ended by this immoral decision than any other war or genocide in history. It is one of the most controversial issues in today’s society. Abortion is the intentional decision to murder a human fetus by chemical, medical or surgical procedures. Those who support the rights of abortion argue that women should be able to decide what can be done to their bodies, yet the unborn baby inside a woman is a living being, and terminating that pregnancy is the equivalent of murder. These innocent children should not be held responsible for your mistakes. Don’t terminate pregnancy now, because you may not have children in the future at all.

Not only is reality TV inappropriate, but it can also humiliate people. For example, in Jersey Shore when the cast goes out to Karma, a club in Jersey, the cast gets drunk and embarrasses themselves because they start getting careless with their actions, cause trouble with other people and start revealing things on TV like skirts going up, tops coming down, etc. For a recovering addict, it is a disgrace to watch themselves and their families on programs like Intervention because they can look back at how they used to struggle in those “sticky situations” and it will always be a part of television entertainment. 16 and Pregnant shows couples and families getting into fights with each other and the cameras are always catching every moment of these battles along with the ups and downs of their struggle. This is what catches the viewers’ attention, dramatic fights. Poniewozik expresses how “it’s often women degrading themselves” and he does not want his “nine year-old thinking that’s the way girls should behave” (236). Basically, Poniewozik expresses how these shows, give people an insulting idea of women, so he forbids his daughter to watch these television

The government should have no voice to women accepting a late-term abortion miscarriage. The mother should have absolute power on what will happen next ; meaning if she wants her life to be saved or the baby’s. The option should not be given to the government, they are not the ones suffering trying to initiate the resolution being made. Late-Term abortion is a topic that’s discussed by innumerable people with different point of views. There are various exceptional points between those who are pro-life and those who are pro-choice. At a late pregnancy stage, the choice of risking both the mother and the baby’s life should be left to the mother and her family. There are situations corresponding with responsibility, religion, and rights for women that should be determined by the mother since it’s her body. Women and their families should be permitted to decide whose life should be saved.

Abortion is a very touchy subject in America nowadays considering all the laws being passed that abortion should be illegal. There are obviously different sides to this. Many people believe that abortions are unethical. I'm not here to give you my argument or tell you which side I'm on, even though it will be really hard for me to not express my emotions. I am here to inform you on what an abortion is and the many factors people talk about while arguing about abortions.

Former U.S. Presidential Candidate, Hilary Clinton, once said, “We’re always going to argue about abortion. It’s a hard choice and it’s controversial.” In this essay, I’ll describe abortion and the history of it. Also, the point of view from both sides; pro-life and pro-choice. Next, how the government handles abortion. Then, why abortion will always be controversial. Lastly, someone’s personal experience with abortion.

“One woman dies every seven minutes around the world due to an unsafe illegal abortion” (womenscenter.com). Women all over the world have used abortion as an alternative to having the baby in every known society, in any point in history, regardless of its legality. The reason and decision to have an abortion is never easy. Pro-Life advocates may argue that a fetus can feel pain and it is inhumane. In reality, a newly fertilized embryo cannot physically feel pain up until at least 14 weeks. People claim there are other options including adoption. But in reality, we already have enough unwanted children in this world so why bring in thousands of more children as a result of abortions being illegal? And the what about the care for the mother?

At 13 weeks into her pregnancy, 29-year-old Jessica Smith lost her 5th baby, lifesitenews states. “I expected to be handed a blob that early into pregnancy. But instead, I was handed a perfectly formed tiny baby. He had perfectly formed fingers and toes. He had tiny, completely identifiable ears, nose, and mouth,” Jessica Smith told lifesitenews. According to Procon, abortion is one of the most debated topics in the United States (Procon).  Planned Parenthood states, there are two different ways a woman can undergo an abortion, the abortion pill, or an in-clinic abortion. The pill only works up to ten weeks into a pregnancy. The doctor will give a woman her first pill in the clinic, and anywhere from six to 48 hours later, a woman can take the second one at home. There are two different types of in-clinical abortions. A suction abortion is used for a pregnancy anywhere between ten and 16 weeks. It uses suction to empty the uterus. Dilation and evacuation is used for a pregnancy anytime after 16 weeks and involves suction, and medical tools to empty a woman’s uterus (Planned Parenthood). Abortion results in terminating an unwanted pregnancy and should be illegal worldwide.

During the teenage years, there are raging hormones, social acceptance conflicts, developing feelings for the opposite sex, the list can go on for days! The older population tends to have opinions about MTV’s hit show, 16 and pregnant. Some critics say it promotes unprotected sex and has girls thinking it is acceptable to be pregnant young. 16 and pregnant has its flaws, but overall it shows the important message that pregnancy is hard, no matter the age but especially so young. These mothers suffer from depression, social unacceptance, and often times bullying. The t.v show proves how difficult it is to have a child so young, and overall tends to discourage it.

Pregnant women should not be treated as victims of their addiction. If you treat pregnant women as victims to their addiction, then what about all the other drugs that are also addicting. "In the last three decades, state prosecutors have dealt with the problem of drug use during pregnancy as a criminal rather than a public health or medical issue." (Mohapatra pg. 3) Why should pregnant addicted women be treated as victims when in the last three decades they haven't been treated as one. If they weren't doing drugs in the first place, then they wouldn't have to worry about charges being brought against them. "Such criminalization has not created a strong deterrent effect, as the rate of drug use in pregnant women has remained fairly consistent."(Mohapatra

"Over one million teenage girls become pregnant each year. In the next 24 hours, about 3,312 girls will become pregnant. In addition, 43% of all adolescents become pregnant before the age of 20. These are incredible statistics when you consider that there are only 31 million females. The United States has the highest adolescent pregnancy rate in the developed world. As statistics show one in nine women between the ages of 15 through 19 become pregnant each year. Also, every 26 seconds a teenage girl becomes pregnant and every 56 seconds a child of a teenage mother is born."

Can you believe that reality television has actually been around since 1948? Most of us may have thought that this idea of real television just came about in the last decade but actually it’s been around for quite some time. In 1948 Candid Camera was the first reality show to be broadcasted on television. Many considered this to be the “granddaddy” of the reality TV genre (History of reality TV). This show actually began in radio broadcasting. Allen Funt was the man in charge of this whole new production. He started by simply taping complaints of men in service and broadcasting them over the Armed Forces Radio. This is what later became known as the television show, Candid Camera. As teenagers (in the United States), we are peer pressured or tempted to try new things. Some teens tend to try out drugs, and alcohol. However, some are having unprotected sex in which, is leads to having babies. This is called, teenage pregnancy. This has caused the United States to create records based off of the statistics and facts given from, researchers across the United States. In order to help prevent teenage pregnancy in the United States, teenagers must understand why, having a baby now isn’t such a smart move on their part.

The teen pregnancy rate had decreased by the maximum of about 55 percent. Most teen birth rates had also gone down about 64 percent, but yet teen pregnancies and birth rate for teenagers ages 15-19 in the U.S still remains one of the highest comparable countries. Due to parenthood, most of teen moms drop out of school. More than 50% of teen mothers never graduate to get their diploma. Sexually active teens that don’t use any type of protection has a 90 percent chance of becoming pregnant within a year, 84 percent of teen pregnancies are unplanned.
