ENGR10004 : ESD 1 Final Reflective Journal
For engineering study, there are four parts to introduce separately.Goal setting, Community Building, Academic development and Personal Development. Those are the basic methods to get high level understanding and learning.
Firstly, Setting up a goal to make sure that the final stage I want to reach.
Engineering is a very traditional subject , contain high quality technology and strong practice. It is based on design, calculation, imagination, ability of judgment, theoretical knowledge and so on.The sufficient patient and good teamwork is the key to the core, which can help solve the complex problem in engineering.Furthermore, engineering is the past and future of human with the world development, create a safety society and living environment push people towards the future that

Electrical engineering is applied in lots of ways, especially in the internet, electrical can be a signal to transport everywhere and control different function. So the new high clean resources and transition of the electrical would be a topic that I would like to dig deeply.
As for me, these are three reasons why I still choose to study engineering. Sense of achievement, high interest in engineering and ideal occupation for future.
Sense of achievement is the most excited emotion always make me feel satisfying . Engineering is full of complex problem which may use knowledge in math, physics and so on. When I got problems , I would face the challenge and use all I have learned to solve the problems . After the problems are solving , the feeling of accomplishment came out from my heart ,push me forward to explore the new worlds in
The job of the engineer can be best described as a presenter in a techno artistic field. The job requires the technical capabilities and
Engineering is an application of science and mathematics which uses the sources of energy in the nature for the benefits of human beings. Engineering is a vast fields and with the help of its innovations the lives of ourselves become easier to a greater extent. We can see the application of these innovations in many areas ranging from manufacture of a safety pin to that of multistoried building. As stated by the American Engineers council for professional Development (“Engineering” 2015) “ Engineering is the creative application of the scientific principles to design or develop structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes, or works utilizing them singly or in combination; or to construct or operate the same with
The field of engineering is a field in which collaboration is essential to solve problems, which is what engineering is, solving problems in which the solutions advance our society. The organization of ASME provides just that bridge that allows professional engineers to collaborate together in solving complex problems. Not only are professional members able to connect with each other in
Once we have your chunked list of steps, decide when we want to reach our goal. Don’t try to be too ambitious – give yourself enough time to realistically achieve your aims. Be relaxed with your time limits and this will increase your happiness and motivation.
I get satisfaction on completion of a project or a goal. The sense of accomplishment gives me energy to continue to the next milestone.
My reasoning for choosing an engineering degree to begin with is because I enjoy understanding how things work, and I’ve always been good with my hands. I have always enjoyed engineering based classes in my past. But my main reason for deciding to pursue an engineering degree was to be financially secure in the
If you use a step by step approach and you start to see the benefits of achieving your goals, goals which actually feel achievable, you will quickly realise that you are moving in the right direction. Now this bit is important, when your first goal pretty much becomes habit rather than a chore it's time to take the next step. This is why your first goal is probably going to be the most important, so make such it will have a noticeable effect and is achievable or you will be setting yourself up for failure.
There are three significant reasons as to why I want to continue my education. I wanted to improve my career skill set, have the chance to explore the world, and help others around me.
It is known as one of the broadest and oldest engineering disciplines. This engineering field necessitate an understanding of fundamentals concepts in kinematics, thermodynamics, mechanics, materials science, structural analysis, and also electricity. This field came out or evolved during the industrial revolution that happened in Europe early in the 18th century; nevertheless, its growth can be tracked down thousand years all over the world. The biggest development observed on this field in the 19th century with the emergence of physics. There are also many types of mechanical engineers. This field, still evolving has integrated improvements in technology. And these days, such improvements are observed in field like mechatronics, composites, and mostly nanotechnology. The reason why mechanical engineering began way back is because of people’s creativity and urge to make and produce better things to work less while being more efficient and productive. The mechanical engineering branch I want to focus more on is designing and
The complex challenge of designing a new sports car, or building a new bridge. Looking outside of the box to accomplish something most people cannot do. Using your hands to design something for the future will be a trait that we can never go without. The world would never be where it is today and will never evolve without the technical knowledge of an engineer.
While I was attending one of my classes, the professor asked us a surprising question regarding our purpose for studying at University of Miami. The question was whether our goal is to claim the Bachelor degree or expanding our knowledge about the major we’re studying? I was completely shocked by the question because I have never thought about studying engineering in this perspective. All I wanted was to get the Bachelor degree in order to secure my future. I kept thinking about this question for almost a week, until I realized that a person can gain more than just a degree during his college time. Therefore, in this paper I will discuss three main aspects that I learned in this semester which are: being a
The primary departments seen with electrical engineering are Research and Development, (R&D) testing, manufacturing, management and maintenance. (CC: Daily Life) In the field of R&D, electrical engineers begin with an idea usually brought on by necessity, such as the need for a new kind of battery technology to support a power-hungry device with powerful hardware. They then design and discuss prototypes and their viability for production or cost effectiveness. After said research is complete electrical engineers work to apply the knowledge or technology in a practical design. This is usually done in the later stages of development. In some cases, R&D is separated into both of their respective fields, typically in a larger company or organization. (CC: Daily Life)
Engineers need to make sure that skills and attitudes listed above are part of their work. For example, according to the report, costly researches on bridge condition are undertaken whenever necessary but sometimes their result are overlooked and never given their due consideration. Unfortunately, the report failed to show clearly attitudes engineers need to develop in order to make their work successful and avoid failures.
By the late 1800s, the world’s first coal powered electric generator was made, the world’s first electric light was used, and the world’s first hydroelectric plant was utilized. A few years later a new type of fuel was becoming well-known, petroleum. Initially it had been an inconvenience for polluting water but by the end of the century oil, turned into gasoline, powered up engines. With the spread of economical gas cars and electricity, society’s energy use rapidly increased. Power plants became massive and power lines stretched out from hundreds of miles between cities, even during The Great Depression. After World War II, the use of energy was quickly doubling every 10 years and it concerned no one.
As mentioned above, it is very important for engineers to understand their own responsibilities. In 1960, the Conference of Engineering Societies of Western Europe and the United States of America defined "professional engineer" as follows:1 “A professional engineer is competent by virtue of his/her fundamental education and training to apply the scientific method and outlook to the analysis
