The Russian culture is different than those of the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, and American cultures. Food and water are the top two important necessities in Russia, while cell phones come in third place (Kolesnikova, 2017). Although Russians have a low income, between 60 to 80 percent own a cell phone (Solomon, 2011). Rather than Americans need to have the latest style, shape, size, and upgrade as soon as they are able to. Russians, on the other hand, prefer their cell phone to be durable and reliable. The differences between cultures can be seen in the products that the average Russian purchases. An example would be over 90 percent of Russians prefer text messaging rather than talking on the phone, including teachers communicating to parents
Have you ever wondered how High Schools are in other countries? Despite sharing some minor similarities, the differences between Nicaraguan and American High School education are clear. Such as, note-taking methods, grading system, classroom environment.
Culture is defined as set of customs, beliefs, and arts that differentiate one group of people from other. Humans have constantly traded goods across inordinate distances. Therefore, understanding cultural rules of conduct is a foundation for effective intercultural communication. Learning the culture of business confederates and recognizing what is believed to be rude can help avoid unintentional errors.
I can honestly say the only things I know about Turkey prior to this assignment is that it is in the middle east, the country's flag has a crecent moon and a star, and that they ride camels, which I am sure is a stereotype. After doing some research I could see that the cultural distance between the United States and Turkey varies depending on the topic. For example, the primary language in the United States is English, whereas Turkey’s primary language is Turkish. Another example is the dominant religion in Turkey is Islam, whereas the dominant religion in the United States is Christianity.
Have you ever thought about how another culture like the Greek culture lived? There’s many cultures out there and the Greek culture seems to be a really interesting culture due to their Ancient times and they still do some of the things now that they used to do back then. Theres many cultures but i’ve always have been thinking about how they do things. I did research on their foods, clothing, and also how they live. I’ll start off with how they eat their food.
The cell phone is a phenomenon of modern and high-tech technology that consumers all over the world desire and need. Innovatively, manufacturers design features that include calendars, Internet, GPS tracking, E-mail functions, and cameras. Interestingly, the popularity of these features differ throughout the world and among members of various cultures. Surprisingly, research has shown that the size, shape, and style of the phones are most important to American consumers. In comparison, the Russian culture values the durability and reliability of the phone. Understandably, these qualities are important due to the economy and lower income of the consumers. In recent years, the economy has begun to grow, so the increase in income places a higher
At the end, both differences between the families ended when finally Toula married Ian. The movie story even that it is a little more exaggerated from the reality, it shows us a true context about the cultural problems that can emerged when people from different backgrounds and traditions comes together, also the misunderstanding because of the unfamiliarity with other cultures and traditions. On the other hand, this story bring us a piece of the Greek culture, like any other culture that lives in America, and the important characteristic that Greek people have such as the tied bondage to their family, traditions, religions, and culture, and their stories that left behind in their country in order to come to America to have a better life for
Human beings are a social species that relies heavily on human interaction throughout their daily lives. There are roughly six billion people on this earth, and those human beings inhabit one hundred and ninety six countries. The varying countries have developed their own customs, languages, values, music, and style that give them their own identity, or “culture.” According to the Oxford dictionary, culture is defined as “the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society [1].” An understanding of the meaning of culture and its characteristics provides the foundation to better comprehend specific cultures. By exploring a country’s cultural identity, one can gain a better understanding of a country’s values and viewpoints within a global context. Through an exploration of culture and its characteristics as well as the specific culture of Ukraine, it can be argued that the current conflict in Ukraine could potentially become an area of conflict for the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
War is a wreck machine utilized by each country from Third World nations to Global Empires all through world's history. The world in the 1940's was not the perfect spot for anybody to live. Hitler's Nazi developments being one of the impetuses for World War II, the subjects of the world were flung into a time of disorder and dissatisfaction in the mid 40's. After Japan's shock assault on the U.S., compelling the Americans into war, it soon turned into an entire different ball game. Secondly, the Cold War turned into a foremost impact on numerous elements of American culture for a significant part of the second half of the 20th century. Being the two primary world forces after WWII, discussion in the midst of the Americans and Soviets turned
Growing up half Nigerian and half caucasian, I have grown up in very diverse and unique environments. I can say that because of this I have been privileged enough to experience two different sides to any type of celebration, talking point, or current event: from views on political issues, opinions on current events, to how a certain holiday is celebrated. For example, if I were to go celebrate Christmas with my dad, who is Nigerian, the majority of the day would be spent in the church, whereas with my mom's side of the family it is more a traditional American Christmas celebration spent at home with family and friends. These experiences have made me more open and accepting to anything from different and odd traditions to even opinions that
There are many similarities as well as differences between Russian and American women. Both groups of women consider the family as the basic social unit. However, the composition of the family differs. In Russia, the women are expected to marry and have children. Urban couples usually only have one child, whereas rural families sometimes have more (“Russia”). In America there is traditionally a mother, father, and two or more children. Recently the number of married couples without children, single-parent households, and un-married couples has greatly increased. One out of every three children born in the USA is born from unmarried parents; they might even possibly be cared for by the
We were anxiously making our way to the terminal at JFK airport. Just the night before, we heard that there were three orphans arriving from Eastern Ukraine with no family to meet them. It sounds like a crazy thing to do on such short notice, but we were taking them in. We’re an Ukrainian-American family who is closely following the war with Russia and involved in keeping our heritage alive; I play a 55-stringed traditional instrument called the Bandura, my siblings folk dance, and my father watches Ukrainian news at every opportunity. We saw helping these kids as a real way of supporting Ukraine and her people in their struggles.
I was born in Thailand and had seen many changes from time to time. Especially the shopping mall in my country, I always see the American brand names and fast foods which I LOVE in every corner, this makes me used to with American lifestyle. Whereas, some big grocery stores in Thailand were taken over by an American company. Surprisingly, Thailand is just a small developing country in Asia. I agree with the author that Asia is similar to the U.S. ideology, for example; the Asia gets an influence from U.S. culture by foods and clothes, and importantly democracy in political system. Therefore, the author is right about reversing brain drain phenomenon because . . .
My student choice paper will be on Russian culture. This is a topic I chose because recently a person I knew from Russia died due to a blood transfusion rejection. After this I did some research on the Russian healthcare system I found that it lacks the funds, equipment and supplies that are needed to deliver an acceptable level of care. Russian cultural beliefs such as folk medicine and the belief in a strong nuclear family may interfere with the care a patient receives. Furthermore, government corruption, international sanctions, and low oil prices are affecting the Russian economy. The Russian culture is one that interests me, but I 'm doing this to see what can be done to help prevent more deaths. Since 1992 the Russian population has
The article Russian/American Cultural Contrasts has given me a better understanding of the Russians. But the most important is their loyalty to “Mother Russia” through the preservation of the Russian language and culture, which I find to be fascinating. They take great pride in their cultural heritage and expect the Americans to admire it and not view them as different or judge them. As Dr. Willand mentioned in class Russians are very proud of their country, and accepts the fact that their lives are difficult and pride themselves of being able to flourish in harsh conditions that most of us could not. This article has given me a better sense of who the Russians are and why they do things and thinks in the way in which they do. One thing is
Gender roles in Russia have dramatically changed since the fall of the former Soviet Union and the fall of communism. It is hard to look directly at the constitution of Russia seeing as though the drafting and redrafting of their constitution is still underway. However, looking at the constitution of the former Soviet Union, you can see it is clearly stated that: “Women and men have equal rights.” It is very clear that in the Soviet Union they were trying to make it so that women and men were equal. It is still clear today that those same basic ideals are present in Russia. Women are clearly more equal in their country than in ours. In the workforce as well as in the home, women
