As stressful as life or college can be it's nice to have a safe comfortable environment to study get help or just meet new people. Anyone can go to a safe zone there is no discrimination. No threats or hate just stress relieving which is good for everyone. Not everyone agrees with safe zones. There are many ways to go about setting up these safe zones.
Animals are a huge help to calming people and shaping these safe zones.
Many animals can be used other than just dogs. In some of these zones they may put cats or hamster or fish. Studies show that students that were dog assisted where in a better mood and relaxed.
As a student who struggles with depression and anxiety, I know how helpful to my emotional health my puppy is to me, but students with disabilities are not the only ones who could benefit from a pet. College student often have a good bit of stress because of their classes, relationships, and/or jobs. Numerous studies have found that animals are great at reducing stress and aiding in the relaxation of their owner (Casciotti & Zuckerman, 2016). Another problem many students may have at times is feelings of seclusion.
The benefits of animal-assisted therapy towards children varies, one of the benefits is to be able to bring out the best out of the child. The animal could connect with the child spiritually and could improve self-esteem because the child would finally feel accepted by the animal (Weston, 2010) as this quote stated, “A therapy dog may be the first creature who has listened and responded to the child with such enthusiasm and compassion. This can result in the child feeling heard and important” (Pichot, 2007 cited in Weston, 2010). The animals are capable of taking the pressure off the child as s/he is going through a difficult experience and being forced to deal with people, the animal can take up the role of being the child’s supporter. Animals can be used as a “bribe” because some children does not want to attend to therapy but is willing to show up because of the animal which is good because in the end the child would be able to receive the therapy s/he needs. Animals that are trained to be assisted therapy animal are capable of switching its beneficial roles to be able to comfort
Date rapes, hate crimes and theft have become an apparent concern on college campuses. The most disturbing crime on a college campus is a school shooting. There are many different types of animals that work for us. There are three types of service animals that help the disabled. Guide animals assist the blind, hearing animals signal the deaf, and there are many other animals that help persons with other disabilities. Another way that animals work for us is by providing emotional support to those with mental health issues. These animals are usually prescribed by a doctor and they are called emotional support animals. One last way that we can see an animal working is in the military. There are many military working dogs that serve to protect us just as a

Similarly, Iannuzzi and Rowan evaluate the ethical issues behind three different areas where animal assisted therapy is needed. The institutions where therapy dogs are used include, (nursing homes, prisons, and various mental facilities). Iannnuzzi and Rowan point out that when the institution owns the therapy dog they are more susceptible to fatigue, they state, “ Animal fatigue is one possible problem for a resident animal if it is not allowed
Animals can play a significant role in a human's life. Some animals that we know do that are dogs. Dogs can change a human's life in a positive way. Some dogs are trained then later used in war. Other dogs are used as pets and to cheer their owners up that suffer from PTSD. In the article “Feeling Depressed? There’s a Dog for That” by Jacqueline Bennett as you get to the 12th paragraph it says “There are a growing number of organizations dedicated to training service dogs to help those suffering from PTSD, particularly veterans. In fact, dogs have been proven so effective at helping combat anxiety, stress, and depression, the government
Resident therapy dogs have been implemented at the library of the Harvard School of Medicine, and these dogs may be checked out just like you would with a book. According to research, interaction with dogs decreases a person’s level of cortisol and increases endorphin levels (Adamle).
Do you feel that colleges can be unsafe for their students? Many colleges have had violent issues in the past on their campuses like rape, murder, robbery, and even suicide. They have always been an issue to address, and more people have been finding out which has caused them to gain concerns for their kids heading to college. College campuses can be dangerous for enrolling students, and most people do not even know or pay attention to why these things occur. These problems are mainly mental illnesses caused by coursework, alcohol, and one of the most important ones, being kept a secret from the public and since these problems have risen people have been figuring out ways to reduce them from happening and better ways to keep students safe.
Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is a fairly old practice, but it has just recently drawn a lot of attention and interest. The Delta Society (as cited by Nebbe, n.d.) defines animal-assisted therapy as the use of an animal in a goal oriented intervention. AAT is provided and documented by professionals. Furthermore, it is designed to promote advancements in social, emotional, physical, and/or cognitive operation (Nebbe, n.d.). It is also important to note that animal-assisted therapy should always be an adjunctive intervention and not in isolation of other services (Fitchett, Granger, Helmer, Kogan, & Young, 1999). Almost any animal can be used in AAT as long as it is a pleasant, sociable animal. However, before animal-assisted therapy
When I read the assignment, tons of different social problems came to mind. I thought about which topic I should choose, so in spirit of college, I chose “Safe Spaces”.
Truth be told: the American people are suffering from self-inflicted limitations and mediocracy. Between college safezones and recurring oversensitivity, society has limited what can and cannot be said in acquirement to recently emerging offence. The Berkeley protests were the first series of inciting incidents that led to national implications and constituted the onset of the counterculture era. It was these students in California who birthed a new era on college campuses, one in which students would demand to be included, to be treated like adults, and to have a very public say on such hotbed issues as civil rights and the Vietnam War. Despite the American root of “being heard,” the american people have entirely switched from megaphones to
Animals are sometimes soothing, helpful and playful but what if they were not just an ordinary pet? What if they were therapeutic doctors that helped ease pain away from patients and allowed others to recover and heal faster? Every question that has just been asked is benefits from using this form of therapy. Moving onward to why using this form is very beneficial, animals are usually looked upon as caring, loving family members. Animal Assisted therapy is a very common use of therapy but it does have negative effects but the positive aspects make the use of animal assisted therapy more needed around the world, and it reduces blood pressure for patients, relieves anxiety, grief and isolation.

The dependent variable, perception of safety on campus, was measured by an item on the questionnaire asking students to indicate their level of satisfaction on feeling safe on campus. Respondents rated their satisfaction on a scale from 1 (Very satisfied) to 5 (Very dissatisfied). Responses to this item were recoded into three categories. Very satisfied and satisfied were combined and recoded 0 (Satisfied). Undecided was recoded 1 (Undecided). Very dissatisfied and dissatisfied together were recoded 2 (Dissatisfied). Recoding was deemed necessary for easier interpretation of findings (See Table 1).
