We have not required group attendance on this unit for the last couple of months, but we do turn off the television and inform them that not participating in groups has to be documented in the record of care. Most of those that decline group activities are those that would be most likely to disrupt the groups, so it has worked well so far. I am concerned about how we can safely navigate the patient doors being unlocked all day with the setup of our units.

The five stages of developing groups is an important part of the position. In many cases it is the relationships that a person will have with other individuals who will determine the best members to put into the different groups. As well, the different skill sets that individuals have are also an important part in placing group members together. The observation of the first groups placed together will be a good gauge in learning how some of the individuals work and observing how others work well together. The group size should be eight to 10 people to facilitate greater ease of equal participation among the individuals.

In this paper I will identify the need for the group that was chosen. Part of the discussion will concentrate on the three key values used in the group approach with this population. The other will address models and theories of group practice, and the approach used by this group. The paper will also look at the key challenges or obstacles in group interventions with this population. Using the worksheet planning guide for social work group’s eight headings will be discussed. Briefly the readings from the course syllabus will be used in the development plan and incorporated in the paper will be the plans for an initial group session. Based on the skills inventory three critical skills will be addressed. Lastly a critique of a proposed group will be conducted.

In this paper I will discuss how a team leader assesses how big the team is needed in order to accomplish the task assigned to them. This paper will also discuss the how conflicts can arise while trying to meet their goals. Such as which person works better in certain areas. I will also talk about how a team leader resolves their problems that may accure. In addition I will also discuss if team work will take longer to complete task along with some of its advantages. Team work and open communication is, as I have said and will say numerous times, vital to achieving organisational objectives and creating a positive working environment and a ‘can-do’ attitude.

Throughout life there are many instances in which an individual has to work in a group to complete a task/project. The importance of group work is to have teamwork with each member of the group. Humans are driven to connect with each other and by working as a group ideas become much more enriched and the ideas or thoughts that each person ‘brings to the table’ each individual is able to add onto that idea or it can trigger one to think of something completely different.

Group work and collaboration is an opportunity for every nurse to expand their resources and make impacts on a large scale in their community. This final project of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) has provided the opportunity to collaborate with individuals, groups and public health organizations to address a need in the community. The following will include an assessment of the group process utilizing the four stages of forming, storming, norming and performing as identified by Connery and Vohs (2006). An assessment of the collaboration with the Medical Reserve Corp and the Pierce County Health Department will also be evaluated. My personal roles and contributions will be discussed along with my perception of the group and partnerships

Teams are more than just groups of people assembled in the same area, they are a collection of individuals dedicated to a common purpose and with a series of detailed performance targets, working together with complementary skills. Teams of people are encountered in various scenarios, not just in the workplace, but also throughout life, such as sports, associations, charities and voluntary services.

Before the start of this course, I heard the words micro, mezzo, and macro, but did not have full comprehension of their meanings. Throughout the progression of this semester, through this course and others, these concepts have come into full view. As social workers, not only do we work one on one with clients, their families, and in group settings, but we must also advocate for, and support social change. Social work is the profession that must work towards the elimination and promotion of abstract and controversial social issues oppressing the populations of people we work with. Groupwork can be defined as a method of social work that is utilised in order to help individuals to enhance their social functioning through purposeful group experiences and to help cope with their personal group or community problems (Konopka, 1972). The role of groupwork places emphasis on sharing thoughts, ideas, problems and activities, allowing social action groups for instance, to “empower members to engage in collective action and planned change efforts to modify particular aspects of their social or physical environment” (Toseland & Rivas, 2014, p. 38; Pyles, 2009; Staples, 2004). Therefore, reflecting on the processes of groupwork is an essential mechanism for all professionals in order to develop better communication skills, conflict resolution and enhance future performance. This essay will reflect upon the task group processes that were conducted this semester, while evaluating my own role within the group and what was learnt working within a small group.

According to Cartwright & Zander (1968), a group may be defined as a “collection of individuals who have relations to one another that make them interdependent to some significant degree”. Other definitions state that a group is “two or more persons who are interacting with one another in such a manner that each person influences and is influenced by each other person (Shaw, 1981). Turner (1987) goes further to say that “a psychological group is one that is psychologically significant for the members, to which they relate themselves subjectively for social comparison and the acquisitions of norms and values…that they privately accept membership in and which influence their attitudes and behaviour”.
