For many years now, the term “terrorist” has been in the news constantly. When mentioned, some people immediately think of the terrorist attacks that occurred in New York and Paris. That is why the Syrian refugees should not be allowed to enter the United States. They are running away from a deadly predicament and if they enter into our nation they will only bring problems along with them. The United States will encounter complications such as the increase of poverty, an increase in expenses and the endangerment of American lives.
The conflict began in 2011 as a civil war in Syria. In 2014 a group named the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) formed. As mentioned in the article 9 Questions About ISIS You Were too Embarrassed to Ask, Max

We are told that the refugees will undergo a rigorous process to enter the country, but most of them do not have a record. Therefore, there is not enough information about these individuals to even consider them as “okay” to cross into the United States. Why are we being forced to open up the doors of our home to complete strangers who can do us harm and possibly kill us? In fact, a few days after the attack in Paris, four Syrians were trying to get into Mexico with forged passports, but luckily they were stopped before they could reach the United States. According to CNN, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a letter to the president, “American humanitarian compassion could be exploited to expose Americans to similar deadly danger” (Fantz, More). He was referring to the attack in Paris. If the “refugees” are brought into the nation, the lives of the Americans are threatened daily. It will be easier for an attack to take place and for ISIS to have control over the lives of citizens and the nation …show more content…
In the article Taking In Refugees Is Not A Risk To National Security, Anne Speckhard, a professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University in the School of Medicine and of security studies in the School of Foreign Service and author of Bride of ISIS stated, “In fact, refugees who become terrorists are extremely rare. There are only a small number of cases of refugees admitted into the U.S. who have been arrested on terrorism charges—the actual data shows that this is a rare phenomenon” (Time). They clearly do not understand the reason behind them fleeing from their country. These people left because they were being murdered for not having the same beliefs as ISIS. The United States is filled with Christians, not Muslims. Thus, the action ISIS will agree upon is a mass murder of Americans because of the acceptance of people they were trying to murder. In addition, war was declared between the U.S. and ISIS. Welcoming those who they are trying to end will only create more anger towards the U.S. and also give them more reason to attack the nation. People are not saying all refugees are terrorist, they are just concerned with their
Much like many white people in the South believed black protestors had no right to infiltrate their cities in the 1960s, a large number of Americans are against the idea of letting refugees or anyone that follows a strongly stereotyped religion into their country. However, like King says, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” (78). Over the course of history, the United States have established themselves as a major power with the intentions of helping others. Whether the tactics for this have actually been successful in the past is a different discussion, but if the motives are pure, then this country has a moral and ethical obligation to help those in need. In this case, that would mean allowing these refugees into the country and not continuing to stigmatize an entire group of people any further. This country turned away refugees during World War II, and a portion of them were killed in the Holocaust. The exact same thing could potentially happen if these refugees and muslims are banned from traveling into the United States.
According to The Economist “If a potential terrorist is determined to enter America to do harm, there are easier and faster ways to get there than by going through the complex refugee resettlement process” (B.B.V.). Clearly terrorists can find quicker ways into our country other than posing as refugees. Terrorists who want to inflict true terror on their victims would use a quick and reliable means. Fear of terrorists does not make us refuse the Syrians; instead we have stepped back and looked at the effect these refugees would have on our
The debate about letting Syrian Refugees into America has been a heavily debated topic in the last year. One surprising fact is that, ‘The third largest city in the country of Jordan, Za’atari is just a refugee camp filled with Syrians escaping the Syrian Civil War and the population of Za’atari of 90,000.’ Syrians should be let into our county because: we have been letting Syrian Refugees into our country a very few have been of them have been radicalized and carried out terrorist attacks on our country, U.S. states cannot legally reject and deport Syrian Refugees coming here to seek refuge without the approval of the federal government, and not all the Syrian Refugees fit the supposedly true stereotypes
Terrorist, sleeper cells and undeserving; these are all adjectives that Americans have used to describe Syrian refugees. This type of bigotry is an issue that must be addressed. In light of the recent attack on Paris, there has been a dramatic shift to block President Obama’s plan to bring 10,000 additional refugees into the United States. Imagine that, a nation of immigrants blocking other immigrants from entering. In order to gain this kind of overwhelming support for such a bill, propagandists have used countless personal attacks on an entire race and claim that it is in the name of national security. Rather than lock down the borders, the United States should take California’s model for vetting refugees and make it the federal
Many U.S. citizens have no problem with Syrian refugees coming to America. According to both “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” and “Our Responsibility to Refugees”, The authors feel that The people of the United States are turning their backs on the refugees. In “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” the author says, “The United States has resettled over three million refugees, offering victims of persecution and conflict the opportunity to build a new life. Refugee resettlement is unequivocally safe. It would be wrong, both morally and politically, to curtail Syrian refugee resettlement, and why it is in fact both ethically imperative and politically expedient to instead expand U.S. commitment to refugee resettlement” (Long). This author sees nothing to fear from refugees. Furthermore, the writer of “Our Responsibility to Refugees” states, “The U.S. can do more and we must. Since 2011, more than 4.2 million Syrians have been displaced by war and violence, and fewer than 3,000 of them have resettled in the U.S. President Barack Obama has committed to resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees in the U.S. His administration needs to
Four years ago, a civil war erupted in Syria after President Assad’s security forces fired into a group of peaceful protester, killing several of them (Syria), and starting a conflict that has rocked the stability of the world today. Now, as we go into the beginning of 2016, the world faces a refugee crisis unlike any other, and pressure is being put on many of the the world powers to give Syrian refugees a safe haven inside their countries. However, with taking in these refugees comes risk. America has always been a beacon for immigrants of all races and ethnicities for ages, but with the rise of a new terrorist group, with an obvious vendetta against America, the United States is having a difficult time determining whether or not it is safe to let these refugees into the country. Americans are faced with a decision. We can close ranks and turn helpless people away out of fear, leaving them to die or suffer some other unknown horrible fate, or we can put our fear aside and embrace these people with open yet cautious arms.
Thousands of Syrians are trying to escape their government and the terrorist group ISIS. Many wonder why we should let refugees in America, or why any country should allow them. But if Syrian’s cannot come to the land of the free, why should any foreigners come? Syrians have just as many reasons to be in America as anyone else. For example, the education, children’s hunger and freedom.
These Syrian refugees with most portions of women and children are less possible to commit crimes and most of them struggle a new life as a new immigrant in the United States. It took more than two years for a refugee to apply as a refugee status until being settled in a new country. Allowing them to enter the country doesn’t mean stop the investigation or loosen the level of survey; it means that provide more chances and help to them. Give them hope and provide a safe shelter for the people who really need our help.
At the moment, Syrian refugees are being subjected to the most precautionary methods when entering the country (Text 3). The Syrians are trying to escape the many violations they are faced with. In Syria, there are many bombings that are killing innocent people. Using precautionary methods based on race shows that America is well on their way to banning the refugees from entering the US. While Americans might think that using precautionary action is the best, they are supporting an unethical act. However, it is worse because they can do something to stop it, yet they refuse. Syrians are running from powerful individuals who have taken their rights, seeking asylum in America but they are almost treated the same because they are not trusted. If America were to ban immigrants from entering the US then they might be repeating history. During the 1940s, Hitler took it upon himself to purify Germany of Jews (Text 2). The action of Hitler led to a world War because of the unethical actions he took to get what he wanted. The fear of many Americans are holding them back from helping innocent children and women. If Americans can look past the fear of having their country destroyed by the refugees then they would be helping alot of people. Americans can provide a safe haven for the refugees but they are too afraid to allow
“I pray for the day when the children of Syria wake up to the sounds of birds not bombs” (Syrian quotes pintrest.org). Syrian refugees are escaping from the destroyed countries. In addition, Syrian refugees are leaving there homes that were torn down by war. However, other countries don’t agree with the idea that people want refugees to enter America. Refugees have to be always accepted because of the many hardships they are facing and it has been the American tradition for
With the recent events around the world involving a terror group named ISIS, many have been affected. In Paris, many were killed during a concert which struck terror around the world. A total of 129 people perished and hundreds were wounded. Millions of Syrian refugees have been trying to escape and come to the United States for their own personal safety. Over the past 4 years, over 2000 refugees have been allowed into the country. In an attempt to increase the safety of the refugees, the U.S. has pledged to allow 10,000 more Syrians over the next year. It has become a controversial topic because citizens of the United States believe letting in the refugees is a mistake. Some incredulous citizens believe letting in refugees will cause more
According to Fox news,Obama administration officials plan to bring in about 10,000 refugees over the next year. This will give them a safe place to stay, a chance to get back on their feet, a chance to get a job, will allow them to get healthcare, an education, and any other other commodities the refugees could possibly need. But, every person has another side. In France, in November of 2015, the ISIS bombers were identified as refugees that had fled to escape the war. As they had started to live in France, they joined ISIS, and were undercover. Letting people into your country without thinking about it gives them a chance to be a threat. Some countries are letting refugees’ records slide so they can start a now life. CNN news says that 31 U.S. governors are not accepting Syrian refugees.Overall, it is the wrong choice to let refugees into your
Many Muslim’s suffer in their own country and seek refuge. Their seek for refuge should not be accused of bad intentions such as terrorism. “In a report released earlier this month, Reclaiming Hope, Dignity and Respect: Syrian and Iraqi Torture Survivors in Jordan, the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) details patterns of torture and human rights abuses endured by Syrians and Iraqis in their home counties, as well as the challenges they are facing as refugees in Jordan.” Mentions Annie Sovcik in “Seeking Hope: Syrian Refugees Consider the Future” The majority pursue refuge in America for their well-being and lives. The minority of terrorist should not represent the majority of Muslims chasing after safety. “As Amira, a Syrian woman, explained, ‘All we want is to return – to go home. It’s very hard to be outside and so far away. Our families and communities and people are dispersed. We want to be reunited and together again.’ However, she also noted, ‘We have lost so much – our homes, our businesses, they are all destroyed. What are we returning to?’ Consequently, for many refugees, the only elusive hope left seems to be a third country.” Cites “Seeking Hope: Syrian Refugees Consider the Future” by Annie Sovcik. The Muslim people who have lost their homes have nothing to return to. Their only hope is refuge in other
Over 300,000 refugees are waiting at the borders of our country waiting to be accepted into our country. My question is why. Why would our great country want to weaken ourselves by letting illnesses and terrorism into our country, especially when they did not help us in the past? The United States should not accept refugees because of many reasons including terrorism, stealing jobs from U.S citizens and bringing sickness and unknown illnesses into our country. Hundreds and hundreds of terrorist attacks have occurred in our country the only blameable menace are us letting in refugees in. Thousands of refugees are working immediately, and illnesses are spreading to Americans in our country as soon as these refugees enter our country. Knowing all of these issues is it really worth letting them in?
Given in today’s society, our national security is constantly threatened with outside forces. The United States is to be considered The Melting Pot of the world, that’s where our national security is threatened the most. Despite that, our security is threatened every day by illegal transportation of goods, illegal immigrants, and even terrorism. It’s even more concerning that many people that are in need of a place of a sanctuary aren’t able to be accepted into the United States. In recent news, the U.S. graciously accepted an estimation of 10,000 Syrian refugees. This helps strengthen the meaning of our country. However, this also creates the threat of a possible breach in our safety, due to the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and Lebanon.
