The Civil War was the deadliest war in america because of the death, destruction, and the technological advances. Many people died in the war just to try and end slavery. President Abraham Lincoln was president at this time and he was leading the fight against slavery from behind his desk in the White House in Washington D.C.. About 2.75 million soldiers fought for the Union Army under President Abraham Lincoln , and 75,000 to 1 million fought for the Confederacy under Jefferson Davis
The death toll after the Civil War was the largest number of deaths accounted for in any War fought for freedom in America. More than Six Million people died while fighting for the end of slavery, And it was fought between the United States own North and South.

The weapons, machinery, and communication changed the future of the North and the South. The biggest invention was the telegraph. The telegraph used a secret code called Morse Code that was created by Samuel Morse. Morse code was used to send letters secretly using combinations of long and short signals of light or sound. The telegraph was a way to send coded messages from one place to another in limited time. Generals used it to send messages about plans of attack and battle information. Even President Abraham Lincoln used the telegraph. President Abraham Lincoln had a special room made that was hidden from the rest of his people, where he would go to send messages to generals to give information and commands. Other Technological Advances were bullets. One bullet used in the Civil War was called the Minie Bullet. The Minie Ball was a shaped large bullet that went through enemies killing them instantly. Over ninety percent of all casualties in the Civil War were caused by the Minie Ball. Another large advance was transportation. Railroads were created to move supplies from one place to another in short time. Railroads were made from state to state to move supplies to battle
During the American Civil War you had the North and the South, the Union vs the Confederate States of America. Technology used during the American Civil war included the first military submarine to sink an enemy vessel. This brought an idea of how these can be used for other wars in the future. The rifle though it had been used in previous wars I think the introduction of repeating rifles changed how war will be fought. These rifles could fire seven shots in 30 seconds, many people from the South believed these were unfair in the war. A union solider quoted “They say we are not fair, that we have guns that we load up on Sunday and shoot all the rest of the week.” The stronger weapons all puts new tactics into the minds of leaders. The railroad is a big use in Civil War as it brings huge amount of
The civil war was known as the bloodiest war in the history of the United States and it was fought over 10,000 places. And more than two percent of the population died during the war, and more people died during the civil war than in all wars put together. Twice as many soldiers died during the war than in combat and it was marked improvement compared to the Mexican war that was from 1846 to 1848 where there were 7 to 10 deaths from diseases for every death in the battle and it wasn’t until World War II that weapons killed more Americans than diseases. And this was because a lot of soldiers died from either injuries from the battlefield or
Before the Civil War the telegraph was not used as much as it could have been used. Abraham Lincoln used it the most out of all the generals, north and south. The telegraph was released eight years before the Civil War. It was thought that only the elite and higher society people were supposed to use the telegraph, but that changed after the Civil War.The telegraph was the “e-mail” or “texting” of the Civil War and it was used many times for different uses. Some used it for personal use, others like Abraham Lincoln, used it for war and communication with the troops of the Civil War. Before the Civil War there was about 50,000 miles of telegraph lines, while during the war 15,000 more miles of line was placed down so people could communicate up and down the Union. The South did not used the telegraph as much as the North, the South used horses to communicate also, the Union did not. The telegraph almost completely took away the idea of the pony
A Rifle could shoot a bullet up to 1,000 yards–and were more accurate. However, until the 1850s it was nearly impossible to use these guns in battle because, since a rifle’s bullet had roughly the same diameter as its barrel, they took too long to load. (Soldiers sometimes had to pound the bullet into the barrel with a mallet.)
Three American Icons that were injured during the Civil War were the following; General Robert E. Lee, General John Buford, and Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The Civil War was between the Northern and the Southern states from April 12, 1861- May 9, 1865. Around 620,000 people had died in the Civil War. The United States was divided because of the issue with slavery. During the Battle of Gettysburg, one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War, General Robert E. Lee invaded the North in the summer of 1863. Lee was defeated by General George G. Meade. The three day battle near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania had killed or wounded about 52,000 men.
The civil war had many new technologies arise that made it unique compared to the wars of the past. One of these technological improvements was the introduction of the Ironclad warship. This technology was introduced during the showdown between the Monitor and the Merrimac . These two Ironclad warships fought to a stalemate , but this struggle forever changed how ships would be designed. Another technology that had not existed in previous wars in american history was the reconnaissance balloon it allowed the union to gather information and send it through telegraph to the various commanders. The civil war brought the first submarine, The CSS Hunley. The Hunley successfully sank the Union ship Housatonic, but unfortunately the Hunley itself was damaged. The submarine would eventually prove to be important for all armies in the wars to come.
Calcium floodlights were mainly used by the Union soldiers as made it easy to see and they soldiers were able to blind Confederate soldiers (8 Unusual Civil War Weapons"). One of the more creative weapons was a blanket used by Confederate soldiers (8 Unusual Civil War Weapons"). As strange as this sounds, the Confederate soldiers used the blanket to catch explosives and throw it back in the enemy's direction. My personal favorite weapon used was a hot air balloon. It was shocking when it say that hot air balloons were used to give a large view of the battlefield. (Appendix A) This was more commonly a Union weapon as the Confederacy lacked good, quality materials to build a durable balloon (“8 Unusual Civil War Weapons"). Like the machine guns and swords, rockets were actually used in the Civil War (“8 Unusual Civil War Weapons"). Although there were very few appearances from rockets, they still did help play a part by doing their job! The Confederacy used Congreve rockets as well (“Weapons”). They were around three feet and two inches long and filled with gunpowder. Although they could be powerful, they missed quite often and were pretty useless (“Weapons”). Used by both the Confederacy and the Union, underwater mines were useful to blow up the opponent's ship. Although the Union tried the underwater mines, the Confederacy had more success as they blew up dozens of the Union’s ships while the Union blew up only six Confederate ships (“8 Unusual Civil War
The civil war developed many inventions. Telegraphs, weapons and ships, the gatling gun, and the ambulance corps. The gatling gun itself killed thousands of men while these bullets shot more than 600 rounds per minute, this gun was a killer. Without The civil war america would be technologically behind other countries.
Technology has not only significantly improved daily life, but it has also changed warfare. In the 1860’s, controversies of the practice of slavery, westward expansion, and political authorities caused high tensions between the Northern Union and the Southern Confederacy. As the tensions built up, the Civil War began on April 12th, 1861 after the secession of the Southern states. Determining the independence of the Confederacy and the fate of the Union, the Civil War was a period of major technological transformation. In 1865, the Union officially won the Civil War with advantages such as industrialization, a larger population, and most importantly, technological innovations. Advancement in technology, such as the telegraph, railroads, and rifles, effectively changed the Northern military strategies by establishing a rapid network of communication, providing an efficient and safe system of transportation, and improving the performance of the weapons.
Following the Civil War, a second industrial revolution in America brought many changes to the nation’s agriculture sector. The new technologies that were created transformed how farmers worked and the way in which the sector functioned. Agriculture expanded and became more industrial. Meanwhile government policies, or lack of them for a while, and hard economic conditions put difficult strains on farmers and their occupation. These changes in technology, economic conditions, and government policy from 1865 to 1900 transformed and improved agriculture while leaving farmers in hardship.
The Civil War is the deadliest war in American History. Between 1861 and 1865, over 600,000 brave souls lost their lives at nearly 10,500 battles. By the end of the war, there were nearly 200,000 African-Americans that fought on the side of the North, with 80 percent recruited from slave states (Half Slave and Half Free, 240). Wars are fought over irreconcilable differences. There may not be one specific cause. Directly or indirectly, slavery was intertwined in many of these differences and the physical conflicts that arose between the North and South. The moral versus practical issue of slavery evoked the passion necessary to unify the people to persevere through the great hardships that were to come.
During the Civil War there was many deadly effective weapons that killed 1,264,000 Americans. Some weapons used were from the Revolutionary War such as the single loading musket. There was also many technological advances such as the Spencer Repeating Rifle to the Gatling Gun. These and many more of the Civil War weapons made this war so deadly.
The Civil War was a four year armed conflict between northern and southern sections of the United States. The Civil War cost more American lives than any other war in history. There were bout 3 million people who fought in the beginning of the Civil War and about 600,000 people’s lives were lost at the end of the war. What began for many as a romantic adventure soon became a heartbreaking bitter struggle between the two parts of a divided country. This, however, was more than the industrial North fighting against the agricultural South. There were divided families with brother fighting brother. Some Northerners joined the Southern ranks and some Southerners were in the Union
The civil war was a very deadly war and one of the bloodiest in United States history. The civil war began on April 12, 1865 and came to an end on May 9, 1865. The most important men at the time were the brave men who served and fought for what they believed in. In other words, these men were the soldiers. Over the course of the war, around three million men served. Over 110,000 Union soldiers died during combat and deaths due to other complications totaled to over 250,000 men. The Confederate casualties in combat added up to over 95,000, and the amount that died from disease and other things added up to over 165,000 deaths. Overall, approximately 620,00 men had died by the end of the war.
To start with, The Civil War lasted from 1861 until 1865 and became the deadliest war in United States’s history. This war was one composed of an enormous amount of battles fought all over the United States. The majority of the battles were fought in the Confederate States in the South. The most famous battles of the Civil War were the battles of Antietam, Vicksburg, Bull Run and Gettysburg. All the battles of the Civil war caused roughly 620,000 soldiers to die and 644,000 soldiers have died in all other conflicts of the nation. Therefore, the Civil War is by far the deadliest war in U.S. history.
