Barack Obama was elected on November 4, 2008 to be the president of the United States. As he is the president, he implied many new suggestions in the United States, for example, the Affordable Care Act or The Patient Protection also known as Obamacare. The health care reform also known as The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or simply Obamacare became one of the most ambitious projects in the history of the United States since the mid-1960’s.1 This is the first attempt to reform the U.S. Health Care system of the United States since the 1960s, when the President Johnson created public Medicare and Medicaid, to help pensioners and the poor. The current reform was attempted back in 1993, however, unsuccessfully by Clinton’s …show more content…
The ever-increasing cost of Medicare and Medicaid is one of the reasons for the rushing United States budget deficit. Many people don’t realize what the Affordable Care Act is used for and what the purpose is for it, but it can either be a pro or a con. There different items that can help a person out if they choose Affordable Care Act and sometimes it can get really expensive if they choose to go with that. The Affordable Care Act offers people and their families many new benefits, rights, and protections on all new major medical plans. Ambulatory Patient Services is the most common form of health care, often called outpatient care. Most health insurances already cover this but it guarantees when a person has the Affordable Care Act. Other benefits of having the Affordable Care Act is it offers coverage on prescription drugs. Several people do not realize that when they are getting the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare, for example, if a person goes into the Emergency Room because of a serious accident the emergency visit is already covered if the person has the Affordable Care Act. Many plans don 't cover mental or behavioral health services, but Obamacare does and that’s why numerous amount of people decide to go with that.3 If people are injured or become ill, the Affordable Care Act can cover rehabilitation therapies to
The Affordable Care Act established by Barack Obama it is a revolutionary law that was passed to change the healthcare system in America. The affordable care act has many pro and cons. Is the Affordable care a good idea? The Affordable care act was put in place to help maintain healthcare spending cost, reduce the amount of people who are uninsured, create universal healthcare, expanding coverage for young adults and to make prescription drug coverage more affordable for seniors. In the year of 2010 and 2011 over 5.1 million seniors and people with disabilities on Medicare have saved over 3.1 billion on prescription drugs, however this includes a one-time rebate
Hispanics are one of the largest groups in the United States that are uninsured. Additionally, the Hispanic population is one of the fastest growing ethnic groups in the U.S. The Hispanic population is estimated to increase over the next 25 years to 32 million out of a total of 72 million of the US population (Brice, 2000). The U.S. health care system is facing one of its most notable societal issues in years in reference to its ability to provide access to medical care for the millions of Americans who do not have health care, for whatever cause. The Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010, for the purpose of reducing inequalities in insurance coverage and to provide access to health care for all. A vital goal of the
There are so many parts to the Affordable Care Act bill also known as Obamacare, that it can become confusing to most Americans. There are some areas of the bill that I agree with, such as benefits for women, senior citizens and college student’s coverage. There are some negatives as well as positive to the Employer Mandate, which we will review.
The affordable care act thought it would fix all the American problems of not having health insurance, but it did not fix them all. A huge advantage of Obama care was allowing young adults to stay on their parents insurance until they were 26 years old. I personally am grateful for this one because there is no way I could afford health insurance if it wasn’t for my mothers insurance. They also expanded Medicaid to millions of people by creating the market place. The affordable care act was supposed to make the overall healthcare costs lower and more affordable. In 2015 the cost of services increased 0.5 percent, which is reported less then typical years, which were approximately 3 to 4 percent. Another major advantage of the affordable care act is that they required all insurance plans to cover you for mental health, addition, chronic diseases, preventative and wellness visits, maternity and newborn, services and devices, lab tests, pediatric care, prescription drugs, outpatient care, emergency room care, and lately hospitalization. These ten are very important for the quality care for the overall health of a patient.
The Affordable Care Act is President Obama’s new solution to provide healthcare coverage to uninsured Americans. The theory is that millions of uninsured Americans will get access to affordable health insurance through the government. The Affordable Care Act reforms Medicare. You cannot be dropped from coverage when you get sick. You cannot be denied coverage or treatment for being sick. You also cannot be charged more for being sick. Although these are all mostly the positive sides to the Affordable Care Act there are many negative. Since you cannot be dropped for being sick, it will make the prices for everyone’s insurance go up. Also, since so few young and healthy Americans have signed up, the math used to create the program is not adding up. Because there is so much confusion surrounding the specifics of the ACA, the Affordable Care Act keeps getting delayed. The Obama administration announced another delay on
The Affordable Care Act has brought many changes to healthcare in the United States. Some of the changes brought on by the Affordable Care Act have had a positive impact on society and some have had a negative impact. Some of the positive effects of the Affordable Care Act include better consumer protection and equality, and healthcare coverage for more Americans. Some of the negative effects include rising insurance premiums and a shortage of doctors. There is also a new set of rules under the Affordable Care Act regarding the billing of medical claims.
Because of the Affordable Care Act, millions of American now have access to affordable healthcare, protection from abusive practices, and better access to care (WhiteHouse.gov).
Universal Healthcare in the United States has been a long time journey that dates back decades and we, as a country, are far behind other developed countries who have had universal healthcare for a long time. Today, Healthcare is obtained through employers or by people paying for it by themselves, which is incredibly expensive due to high premiums. Five years have passed since the controversial Obama care, or Affordable Care Act, was signed into law on March 23, 2010. The Affordable Care Act aimed at fixing the many problems that the United States has with healthcare by making it available to everyone, but also more efficient and this required drastic changes that made some people happy while others unhappy since some are benefiting while others are not. These people include politicians, but foremost presidential candidates. Candidate’s stance on the issue of healthcare is truly important due to the fact that if they’re the next president of the United States, it could hurt or improve the health care reform. Noteworthy candidates are: Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, Marco Rubio, and Bernie Sanders. Republicans and Democrats have long debated whether or not the Affordable Care Act should be repealed or replaced. Republicans believe that it is a problem while Democrats support it. The Affordable Care Act should not be replaced but instead improved because it provides quality and affordable health care to Americans. Everyone gets sick and people shouldn’t be afraid of receiving help
The Affordable Care Act is designed to increase access to inexpensive health care coverage, but the law omits one group of people from advancing: the nearly 12 million undocumented immigrants presently existing in the United States. The high costs of health care and the loss of health insurance coverage are two significant long-term challenges that provoke many Americans. These problems are particularly severe for migrants in the United States, who have predominantly low rates of health insurance coverage and poor access to health care services. Once settled in the country, many migrants face a lifetime of change and acculturation.
According to Jayne O’Donnell, since January 2010, more than 40 rural community hospitals have closed their doors. In addition, O’Donnell points out that,
Healthcare reforms have always been a big priority to many presidents of the United States. Every president has been trying to introduce different healthcare reforms to congress but many have not seemed to work. Health is very important, when one thinks about it, health is on par with education on the priority list because both of this factor into economic development. If we do not have healthy citizens that do not have their proper vaccines then our life expectancy is going to decrease. When President Barack Obama was first elected into office, one of his main points was the healthcare system in America. He wanted everyone in the United State to have affordable health care and if they were seriously poor then he wanted them to have health
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, was signed into law in 2010. The goal of the ACA is to provide affordable health insurance coverage for all Americans. The ACA was also designed to protect Americans from insurance company schemes that may increase patient costs or restrict care. Millions of Americans have benefitted by receiving insurance coverage through the ACA, especially those who are unemployed or have low-income jobs. Some could not afford insurance because they could not work due to a disability or family obligations. Others could not get health insurance because of pre-existing medical conditions. “More than 45 million Americans are uninsured, and as a result, they experience increased morbidity and mortality”
Health care reform is referring to the changes in health care policies. This reform is driven by the high cost of health care and the right to health care. Health care is focusing on exploring and applying the Affordable Care Act. The Affordable Care Act addresses delivery issues within the current health care system and is working to improve them. Research is important in the Affordable Care Act in order to help individuals make informed health care decisions. Health care reform can affect the nursing practices at the bedside, influence advanced primary care nurses and their bill of service, and move nursing towards a new direction with the new health care system in the United States.
For the past several months, the news feeds have been full of stories on Obamacare, more accurately described as The Affordable Care Act. The Affordable Care Act is the largest mandated healthcare change in the United States since Medicare and Medicaid began in 1965 (Mayer, 2013). It was signed into Law in 2010 designed to give all Americans access to healthcare. Whether you are for or against The Affordable Care Act one thing is above dispute, it has caused a Nationwide uproar. Now that we are in a new Presidential era, steps are being taken to “Repeal and Replace” Obamacare.
The Affordable Care Act was another name for Obama-care and it was a United States federal statute that was later enacted by congress. The significance of this act was for that people that were poor or from low income families they could be given health insurance on their life of annually income. The act was basically designed to provide everyone even people that are close to being in poverty the ability to afford health insurance based off their income taxes besides making the price the same across the board knowing that most people stay being sick or with disease because they cannot afford basic and good health treatments. The importance is that many American people could get insurance because of preexisting conditions. Another importance
