Happiness is not always easy to achieve. Life throws curve balls and it’s hard to swing at all of them. I try to stay happy all the time or I fake it. I don’t want ruin other people’s happiness by being upset. I am blessed to say I have a happy life but there is plenty of ways I could increase my own happiness. Sleeping more than I do right now would increase my happiness. Doing more for others and spreading kindness is another way I could have a happier life. Lastly, planning events or activities beforehand would not only make me happier but also less stressed. I would love to be happier, but I need to be committed to make changes in my life. Sleep is a great thing and I wish I could do it more often. I’ve never been a good sleeper. My parents think it’s because of my phone, but I put it up when I want to sleep and I end up staring at the ceiling for an hour or two. According to Lemola et al. (as cited in “Boehm and Kubzansky, 2012), there was a study involving children and, “…. those who were the most optimistic slept a sufficient amount each night and took less time to fall asleep” (2010). For me to sleep more and be happier, I need to have a positive outlook on life. I always try to see the brighter side of situations but sometimes, I find it immensely hard to be positive when other people are pessimistic. I need to push myself and be the better person. If being more optimistic will help me sleep more, I will gladly be positive in every situation so I will be
Lazy fall days, colorful leaves, cooler weather, birds singing, frogs croaking, crickets chirping, relaxing to the sounds of the outdoors. Waves of water crashing upon each other, fishing, telling stories around a campfire, making s’mores, memories with family and friends; this is what happiness is to me. Happiness is in the eye of the beholder, what brings happiness to one person may not bring happiness to another person. When I think of the word happiness, I think of descriptive words like Contentment, enjoyment, satisfaction, delightfulness, something that makes a person smile. I have always looked at the word happiness as a feeling, an action, never have I thought of happiness as an overall affect. However, it is a proven fact, that happiness can affect the over-all health and longevity of human life. Happy people live longer than those that are lonely, stressed, or depressed.
Have you ever truly sat and considered what makes you truly happy? Often times, people answer directly with the response of money. We say this without deeply considering all that we have to be grateful for. Happiness is not achieved through wealth instead through experiences, the family we love, and the nature that surrounds us, literature has created a great impact upon the ideals we consider to create our happiness.
Based on Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi “Happiness Revisited” People have many different points of view about how to achieve happiness, it can be based on the type of life one is having, an experience, a way of living, culture, and religion. Happiness can be defined in many ways but happiness is not something we find or get just by magic. In “Happiness Revisited” by Csikszentmihalyi, the author emphasizes that “It is by being fully involved with every detail of our lives, whether good or bad, that we find happiness, not by trying to look for it directly.” And just as he stays that happiness is when someone is involved in everything that happens in live either good or bad, one example that I think Csikszentmihalyi will describe as an optimal experience
Americans constantly find themselves desiring happiness. However, what is happiness and how does someone achieve it? According to Webster-Dictionary.org, happiness is “An agreeable feeling or condition of the soul arising from good fortune or propitious happening of any kind; the possession of those circumstances or that state of being which is attended with enjoyment”. Every American seeks happiness, but achieving it is the struggle. Americans search for fleeting happiness, therefore, we often find contentment in mediocre living.
“Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.” wise words spoken by Jim Rohn. Happiness is the state of being happy. It is a simple as that. Being happy is feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. For some of people happiness doesn't come easily, but I believe that it could. I believe that people can be and make their own happiness.

What does happiness even mean? Does everything think the same when they hear happiness. I do not believe that happiness means the same thing to
The search for happiness is a general goal. We all want and desire to be happy at all times and in searching for it, we rely on each other for it. We search for it with all our strength, thoughts and actions as happiness is the ultimate goal.
People do the thing they know that can make them happy, like going out on a Friday night or reading a good book. Happiness, for Sheenie Ambardar, MD, is a personal thing. “It’s something internal, it’s some kind of peace or contentedness, some kind of psychological well-being that you have inside of you, so it’s not related to any of those external things,” Dr. Ambradar added. But, many people think that external factors can be the cause of their happiness. You are chained to the idea that you have to have these set of things at this age in order for you to be happy. But Dr. Ambradar said, “That’s such an insidious, oppressive idea.”
If we choose not to focus much on what will lack in our lives but be thankful for the little that you have at the present will make us happy. We need to be happy because of the family that we have which others lack, the work or job, good health, family and love we receive from others. Happiness is simply being grateful and practice consistently. The main problem that make people lack happiness is because they focus most of their time and energy on what they do not have. In addition, people who are compassionate, generous and helpful to those others are the happy lot in the
The pursuit of happiness is a common zeitgeist feature that occurs across all of the humanities. The way individuals pursue this happiness varies depending on how the time period has influences them. This zeitgeist feature is especially apparent during the Contemporary era. There are many advancements in the area of technology, causing one to detach from reality. The entertainment industry allows for seriousness to be critiqued. There is a sense of paranoia stirred up by the Cold War. The contemporary era also deals with the idea of fragmentation, which stems into different areas of life. Each of these elements relate to one’s pursuit of happiness during the contemporary era, as well as past and future eras.
Omar Khayyam proclaims, “Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.” All mortal beings pursue the goal of happiness throughout their lives. The quest for bliss is one of the most primal instincts of all human nature. Countless components influence what pleasure is for each individual separately; however, the most commonly shared characteristics to achieve contentment for majority of humans deal with a strong faith, family, love, and health. These four pillars of happiness all have their own paths that connect to form a complete person. Faith brings forth a relationship that allows an individual to grow spiritually. Being close to family will let people feel secure knowing that if anything goes wrong, they have their family to back them up. Feeling loved and giving love allows individuals to create inner happiness that is unexplainable to many. Lastly, living a healthy life will allow a being to thrive their whole lifespan and allow them to acquire the full extent of their life.
What do you think makes us happy? A question for everyone to determine at some point in their life. As defined in Merriam-Webster (2017), happiness is a state of well-being and contentment; a pleasurable or satisfying experience. However, happiness is hard to achieve like water or smoke, it is there but it is impossible to hold in our hands. It can be as simple as being content with doing what you love, and living the life you want or by being who you want to be. Some individuals even go as far as to follow steps on how to achieve happiness. Happiness is a sensation that people desire to have, and sometimes desperately wishes for. Everyone has a completely different view of happiness and how to attain it. Some Individuals require money, material things, solitude and for others it is companionship or helping someone, but the list can go on. People sometimes tend judge their happiness based on what their career field is, what kind of car they drive, how many square footages their home has and the area where their home is located. I believe that individuals can be happy within unhappiness when we have an absolute knowledge and understanding of what our purpose is, we stop at nothing to attain and achieve what our heats desires; true happiness.
Think of the word “happiness.” So many people would love to feel this emotion throughout their life. But what is the hallmark of achieving happiness in the first place? And how does one keep it that way? More and more, people are now investing themselves in the latest gadgets because they think they will get everlasting happiness. But does happiness mean that, or does it have a simpler definition? In the articles, “You Can Buy Happiness, If It’s An Experience,” by Manvi Singh and the poems “I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud” by William Wordsworth and “Blossoms,” by Li-Young Lee, the authors all believe that happiness is achievable, but not through the use of products or the amount of money you have. One can achieve happiness by having strong relationships, experiences, and the simple pleasures life gives you.
Achieving a state of happiness, a state of nirvana, is of the utmost importance to a human. Every step that one takes, every action that one performs, all of it is to achieve satisfaction. However, not all satisfaction is derived from the save source and has the same effectiveness. Recall Grade 9 health class where you learned about the good and bad sources of calories. You learned that empty calories (bad) which were from carbohydrates were found mostly in fast food whereas, calories from healthier sources such as Greek yogurt were abundant with protein. In the short term, both sources would fulfill the job of providing the body with energy. However, in the long haul, the sources of calories will have a significant impact on one’s health; If one ate from an empty calorie source, excess intake of carbohydrates could lead to the developing insulin resistance. But, if the person chose a healthy source which provided protein the person could possibly develop extra muscle (given that he/she exercises too). Similarly, this concept of good or bad sources applies to happiness too. The two types of happiness are intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic happiness is attained from relationships, physical health, etc… while extrinsic happiness can be bought. Since intrinsic happiness is harder to attain it is more rewarding.
