The Cheesecake Factory has been in operation for over thirty years. We opened the doors to the first Cheesecake Factory store on February 25, 1978 in Beverly Hills, California. Since then, we have excelled and expanded tremendously. We currently have over two hundred stores around the world. Our unique settings set us apart and give us diversity in the restaurant industry. We appeal to a vast majority of patrons, and pride ourselves on the integrity of the Company. Our staff, being just as diverse as the dining experience that we offer, consists of people from many different backgrounds. The Cheesecake Factory has a Code of Conduct in place to regulate conduct and ensure that, while providing great service, the staff is being treated with respect as well. The code of conduct also covers the responsibility of the staff members in regard to the interest of the Company. A code of conduct is a guide and reference for users in support of day to day decision making (Driscoll 2000). We want our staff to know that we value your hard work and commitment. We also want them to know that we expect them to provide a high quality of service to our guest.
At the Cheesecake Factory, the Code of Conduct is very important to our daily functions. As a whole, the Code of Conduct covers the behavior that is permissible and acceptable according to law. Our company Code of Conduct describes a high level of commitment to patients, communities, suppliers, volunteers, and shareholders, all based on values such as fairness, quality, respect and overall the improvement of human life (Code of Conduct, 2015). Disney’s Standard of Business Conduct highlights the organizations values which are displayed within their business. The president for Disney says that they “have earned the trust of guests, audiences, consumers and shareholders because of our commitment to high standards in everything we do, everywhere we operate” ("Standards of business," 2012). The areas within the Standard of Business conduct are integrity, honesty, trust, respect, playing by the rules, and teamwork. These areas are practiced within the organization toward the public and employees because they want to be as a family friendly organization.
A code of ethics is a formal document in which is used to assist members of an organization, to know what’s ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’ in the work place and applying it to their decisions. A code of ethics is a written set of rules or guidelines to help the workers and management ‘conduct’ or direct their actions with its primary values and ethical standards. A code of ethics is important because without it, employees and management wouldn’t have guidelines and the establishment would resemble a crazy house. Consider the establishment, Dunkin Donuts. Dunkin Donuts is a food establishment well-known for their famous donuts, coffee and their slogan “America runs on Dunkin”. Without a code of ethics, the industry would most likely be
We as business owners, management and or in a role of authority must set, address and comply with a solid foundation of ethics. “A code of conduct is the single most important element of your ethics and compliance program. It sets the tone and direction for the entire function. Often, the code is a standalone document, ideally only a few pages in length. It introduces the concept of ethics and compliance and provides an overview of what you mean when you talk about ethical business conduct.”
In all circumstances, employees’ professional judgement will be exercised and for the vast majority of employees this Code of Conduct will serve only to confirm what has always been their practice. If employees have any doubts about points in this Code of Conduct, or how they should act in particular circumstances, they would consult with the Headteacher.

A code of conduct and a statement of formal statements describe and explain what an organization expects from its employees and a code of ethics generally consists of statements that serve as principles and basis for rules of conduct. Leaders and managers must be role models for organizational success. If employees see leaders and management demonstrating the organizational values then it adds to the commitment and credibility of leadership and reinforces the importance of the organization’s values which leads to employees who are more engaged and committed to the organization. Also turnover among employees tends to be lower and productivity tends to be high. On the other hand, if leadership demonstrates behavior that is inconsistent with the code of conduct then a negative message is sent to the employees. Therefore, employees may disengage and compromise company standards as seen in the

For the most part the topics discussed in their code of conduct are fairly standard of the codes of conduct I have seen in the past and the section titles do a fairly good job of summarizing their content on their own. In short, their code of conduct instructs there employees to follow the laws/rules, avoid conflict of interest, do not commit insider trading, do not use company assets or information for you own personal benefit, don’t compete with the company, do not except bribes or inappropriate gifts, perform your work in a fair and honest fashion, don’t discriminate or harass, work safe and report accidents/hazards, don’t use or be under the influence of drugs at work, keep accurate records, don’t violate confidentiality, don’t steal company property, be careful to no damage company property, report violations, a guideline for making ethical decisions, and technical details concerning waivers and guidelines specifically for the CEO and senior financial officers.
