In this assignment I will be writing about the importance of research in nursing considering history of nursing and the difference between how research is performed nowadays. I will also be defining different types of research such as quantitative and qualitative research and giving an example of a nursing based research study that was carried out and how it is important to nursing presently.

In qualitative research, truthfulness, authenticity, and quality all refer to trustworthiness (Schmidt & Brown, 2015). In other words, trustworthiness is the amount of trust and confidence one can have in the results (Schmidt & Brown, 2015). To obtain trustworthiness, credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability must be met (Schmidt & Brown, 2015).

Research is a systematic, precise and rigorous inquiry or investigation that allows people to understand the nature of a problem or idea (Grossoehme, 2014; Stringer, 2014). All research can be visualised as an extension of the activities we engage in day by day, which requires one to move past the day-to-day understandings and engage in a more precise and rigorous description, observation or explanation of the problem or idea (Stringer, 2014).

What I have learned about research is that it is a process, a scientific process that psychologist and scientist develop that includes many different approaches and that is carefully peer reviewed and evaluated. There is what is called the Scientific Approach where scientist have an idea or theory and based on their observation will either support the theory or the theory can be falsified by their peers. Data also goes through a review period before it is published in a scientific journal by scientist who have the knowledge and expertise to evaluate it.
