The Illegal Immigration Issue Is One Of The Most Complex And Emotionally Charged Social Justice Issues

As the daughter of an immigrant, I have witnessed the various barriers faced by immigrants, and this experience has motivated me toward my career objective. According to the Pew Research Center Hispanic Trends Project, there were about 11.3 million immigrants living illegally in the United States in 2013 (Passel et al., 2014). These immigrants come from all parts of the world for several different reasons. Whether to provide better resources for their family back home or to live a better life, these immigrants usually work in environments that can be harmful and dangerous to their health.

There are many vulnerable populations within the United States. One of the many vulnerable populations are undocumented immigrants. Undocumented immigrants also known as illegal immigrants according to Wikipedia (2016) is defined as “the migration of people across national boarders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country” (para 1). The United States of America has one of the largest population of immigrants. In this paper, I will be discussing the multiple stressors related to undocumented immigrants as well as the programs that can be used to help alleviate those stressors.

Still, the party´s statements are accusing millions of people of having committed the most serious, inhumane crimes, when in reality, the one crime they have committed, and the one they are really blaming them for, is being immigrants, which is not a crime. The Republican Party has taken away from itself the chance to see beyond its own prejudices and to look at the bigger picture. Drawing on several sources of survey data and interview questions this project examined the different attitudes of Illegal immigrant in the United states and their opinion on immigration. The survey questions were about their opinion of immigration; as well as how they see themselves and others. I wanted them to reflect on shared and unshared beliefs and values regarding themselves and others. The interview questions were a bit more personal and asked about their individual life experiences as undocumented immigrants in the city of Houston.

Not only do illegal immigrants crossing the border cause border control issues, but they also cause critical national security issues by jeopardizing the safety of the US citizens. What role will immigrants have in the future of American crime? Unlike the past and the present, it is difficult to determine exactly what sort of role immigrants will play in the future. According to the U.S. Census Bureau (2010) “The next half century marks key points in continuing trends — the U.S. will become a plurality nation, where the non-Hispanic white population remains the largest single group, but no group is in the majority” (p. 11). Estolano LeSar Perez, a researcher with Los Angeles 2050, says this could have a real impact on something that preoccupies many Americans: crime.

Although events such as San Bernardino in 2015 provide anecdotal evidence of immigrants committing acts of extreme violence, these events are extremely rare. Nonetheless, tragedies such as these inevitably grab headlines and capture the attention of millions of Americans across the country. Tragedies such as the attack in San Bernardino hold strong emotional appeal to proponents for restrictive immigration policy. However, these rare and uncontrollable events should not provide the base of logic for America’s national immigration policy as they are not a proxy for immigrant behavior as a whole. Various statistics regarding crime among immigrants may reveal an underlying reason for lower crime rates, which is that the majority of immigrants understand the implications of committing a crime and know that it would not be in their best interest as a new member of the country they wish to call home. Natives, moreover, have crime rates five times that of immigrants. This demonstrates the potential positive externalities that immigrants contribute to the social sphere by lowering the crime rate and acting as models within urban America.

Another reason why people support deportation is because some illegals come as criminals and cross the border to damage the country. According to James (1991) says some of illegals cross the border to bring drugs like cocaine, heroin, and marijuana, or do illicit things. The drugs, which a lot of Americans consume, come from South America to Mexico. Where a drug dealer produces, then and sends them to the U.S.A. In the 1990’s the maximum portion of the drugs came from Mexico, where drug traffickers passed the drugs through the river that is between Mexico and the U.S.A (James, 1991). These acts have created the increase of crime and violence and have made it unsafe peacefully to live for the citizens and for the life of the “members of the Border Patrol by illegal border crossers” (James, 1991).

Here in the Rio Grande Valley immigration has become the hit. An immigrant in my own words is someone from a different country that travels to an alternative country permanently for a better life. I belief they are many unlike reasons why people live in their country but cross to another country. Actually, I’m not in immigrant, I’m a US citizen but I have experienced many stories and seen families struggle from this situation. Nevertheless, to my own experience, some people move to the US to find better jobs, but some move to different counties to look forward not only to better their education but their children’s as well. It is proven that immigrants are far more afraid and less likely to as well participate in any crime involved activities, quit their jobs, shoplift, hurt others in any way, shape or form, or do something that could get them arrested. It’s the sense of fear they have for getting deported, but it may also be that good spirit in which they truly came here to start a better life with no problems.
