Change cannot occur in services without leadership (Goodwin, 2006). According to Goodwin (2006), more than 400 definitions of leadership have been developed, as the concept still raises questions with difficult answers. However, generally a leader is defined as a person who leads and influences others for the realization of a genuine purpose or vision (Adair, 2010). Whist the
The traditional concept of a leader, as being the directing chief at the top of a hierarchy, is now considered to be inadequate to truly lead a modern organisation. Leadership is concerned with people and so anyone, and indeed everybody, has the potential to demonstrate leadership qualities and behaviours.
leader. The following definition has been chosen as it reflects the overall stance of the inquiry:
Leadership is the ultimate form of service; it requires leaders to devote much of themselves to deal with the responsibilities that come with the title. They not only serve as normal members, but they must make important decisions with their followers’ interests
Leadership is a term that cannot be defined or simplified with a standard definition (Bethel, 2011). The term’s complexity is a phenomenon, as it carries a different meaning for each person. During the
Leadership is the ability or authority to guide and direct others towards achievement of goal without force that leaves them feeling empowered and accomplished. Besides, leader has a significant impact on ethical decision making. This is because leaders have the power to motivate others and enforce the organization norms and policies as well as their own viewpoint. Leadership involves establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with others, providing the information, knowledge and methods to realize that vision, coordinating
Over the last century, defining what exactly a leader is, has proven difficult, with many researchers creating their own definitions. However, I believe a leader is a person that can motivate and influence people to follow them in the quest to accomplish objectives and goals, which are part of a greater vision. Furthermore, leadership is the ability to motivate people to accomplish tasks or goals. In the workforce, leaders provide direction and motivate personnel to focus on steps to move towards the provided direction. In this way, leadership differs from management, as management plans, organizes, and moves in a controlled manner. An example is generating work schedules for employees, ensuring the organization has the appropriate amount of people to accomplish the company’s goals.
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. “Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader.” (Finkelman. 2012 P15)
According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.
Creativity is a valuable component of the decision-making process when achieving total quality. Total quality is achievable through a constant value-focused approach. During this process, innovation is critical to successful implementation of change within a facility. Effective leadership plays a significant role in the development of efficient processes, which can create value for the organization. During this type of approach, creativity aids the process by shifting focus to innovative and flexible ideas (Goetsch & Davis, 2014). In order to create sustainability in healthcare, I feel leaders should encompass this approach. Change is unavoidable in healthcare and facilities must be proactive in addressing this change. This can be a change
Leadership has been studied extensively and many varying definitions exist. Hughes, Ginnett and Curphy (2015, p.4) review many of these definitions and consequently describe leadership as ‘the process of influencing an organised group towards its goals’. Leadership involves the interplay of a range of different factors, not least the leader themselves, the followers and the situation. For
There are certain essential elements that constitute the definition of leadership. In reality, there are very diverse definitions of leadership depending on
Leadership is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as the “action of leading a group of people or an organization.” Leadership is also the ability to set trends, inspire, motivate, and sway others to produce desired results. There are different styles and ways of performing leadership and a good leader has the ability to take ordinary people, put them all together, and hopefully yield successful results. For organizations to have sustained results from their performance there must be a good balance of business insight, technical and interpersonal skills, and good team dynamics. A leader must know how to use all these areas as well as trust and communicate with their people in
Organizations depend on the management and leadership skills of individuals in order to be successful. Leaders do not have to be managers but are equally important. Leaders are individuals who possess traits, behavior and abilities to influence others to accomplish tasks and other needed objectives for the company. Leadership is defined as “the ability of an individual to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organization. . . .” (House et al., 1999, pg. 184).
Over the years, a great deal of time, and research has been dedicate to the study of leadership. Even with extensive data on the topic, many still disagree on what leadership really means. Hence, leadership is a word that has many different meanings and different researched theories associated with it. On a basic level, leadership involves having and establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with followers, respecting followers, and leading an organization with excellence while ensuring that everyone is part of the team. Leadership is also a method by which a leader uses his or her influence towards getting a group of followers to take ownership or buy into a vision.
