Having those strong critical thinking skills is very vital to this career. Critical thinking means that you have to make decisions based upon treatments, symptoms and changes that occur in a child’s state of health (educationcareerarticles.com, pg.2). You have to know what specific type of care each patient needs so you can diagnose any problems that may happen. Having patience is another strong quality at the top of the list. Dealing with kids can give someone a lot of stress just because they are all over the place sometimes which is where your patience ability has to kick in. Emotional stability is the next skill trait. Because nursing in general is a very hard field to go into, you have to know how to cope when a patient may be suffering or have a rare disease. Your ability to be strong can develop overtime, but then again you have those who can’t handle to see something as awful as that. Being that this job is physically demanding, you need to be in the best shape possible. Your endurance needs to be on a level to where you won’t tire out due to the long shifts and heavy work load (kirkkerr, pg.2). Running from patient to patient can use a lot of energy considering that not all of your patients will be next door to each other. Also the fact that hospitals have many floors that’s in use so it’s obvious that this would require a lot of work. It takes someone who is truly dedicated to want to use the time and mobility they have to want to help a child’s life and their parents.
