It is quite obvious from the case that Apple is facing many obstacles. It has way more competitors today than it had two or three decades back. Part of it has to with the highly globalized environment that companies are operating in these days. Another major obstacle is the technological environment which is rapidly changing compared to the one that Apple experienced when it first emerged on the global scene. But the most important of it all seems to be a mental thing. It appears that Apple, over a period of time, developed a rigid mental model that related success of Apple with sheer innovation. This same mental model has lead to demise of many companies in the past, Xerox Corporation being the prime example of that.

Apple Computer paradoxically exists as both one of America’s greatest successes and one of its greatest failures to achieve potential. It ignited the personal computer industry in the 1970’s (1), bringing such behemoths as IBM and Digital Equipment almost to their knees. At the same time, Apple is an example of opportunities lost. It represents a fascinating microcosm of American business as it continues to utilize its strengths while reinventing itself.
However, they may face the limitation on the firms’ development. Apple is based on a hybrid hierarchical structure (mixed with other organizational structures (Meyer, 2015). Meyer (2015) depicts that companies’ main framework is based on innovation and the leadership of Steve Jobs but for that type of leadership only works if the structure allows it to do so. Due to leadership change to Tim Cook, there are some changes made in the organizational structure in order to suit the market and its demands (Meyer, 2015). Despite the leadership change in Apple Inc. it may well enhance Apple’s capabilities will grow rapidly in creative and design (Meyer, 2015).
I had the pleasure of researching Apple, Inc. I don’t own any apple products but I do admire the story behind the product. We are going to go behind the scenes of the major company Apple, Inc. We will look into the services, products, financial profile, history, and marketing. In order to understand who Apple is today we have to understand where it came from. The headquarters for the company is in Cupertino, California. The current CEO of the company is Timothy Cook. Apple currently has 92,600 employees worldwide.Apple Inc. was founded by Steven Wozniak and Steve Jobs in 1976. They had a vision that no one else could possibly understand. It’s hard to see someone else’s vision. Let’s take a look at where the name Apple came from. Jobs and Wozniak was in the car when they thought of the name apple. Jobs was on a fruitarian diet. They wanted a name to represent something that everyone always wants. I don’t know about you, but I’m not always a fan of apples. Jobs recently visited an apple farm and thought the name sounded fun. Wozniak was a fan of the Beatles, and he questioned due to the Beatles record label Apple Records. Jobs was more of the visionary type of person. He seen something great into what Wozniak was trying to create. Sometimes that’s all you need is a little push in the right direction. As I continued to research Apple it amazes me how someone

From its start-up until the present, Apple’s corporate structure hasn’t changed a lot. Before his death, Steve Jobs was the one to make the calls regarding all the decisions; everything had to be passed through him. The company’s decision making processes were and still are centralized, in which the CEO makes all the decisions but it is incorporating more of a collaborative approach. The company is doing so by encouraging its hardware and software teams to collaborate. This approach however, never existed when Jobs was the CEO. Apple is considered a centralized company because it makes high capital investments that encourage centralization. It is highly competitive, offers high technology products, has a homogeneous product line, low product diversification, and has a lot of experience doing international business. Furthermore, it is organized on different basis; functional, divisional and geographical. Its functional structure is that the innovations and visions essentially come from top management and flow down the organization. Top management includes the board of directors in which they oversee and ensure that shareholders’ interests are being served for a long-term. Also, its functional structure is departmentalized and includes marketing, engineering, manufacturing, financing, IT, research and development. Its divisional functions include the products the company is offering, the market it is operating in and geographical areas. Apple has four product categories; the
