One of the biggest economic challenges in the United States today is climate change. Climate change effects all sectors of the economic, however, most especially agriculture, energy, and transportation are more likely to be effected (EPA, 2016). Thereby, all of society is highly dependent on the stability in the environment to carry out all of life processes. A shift in the normal range of conditions can impact people and areas that are more vulnerable to coastal storms, and drought. For example, some of the effects of climate change in the Northeast region of the United States are “heat waves, heavy downpours and sea level rise pose growing challenges to many aspects of life in the Northeast” (NASA, n.d.). Thereby, increasingly compromising the agriculture, fisheries and ecosystems in the Northeast region of the United States.

Imagine your hometown underwater; the places you once hoped to show your grandchildren lost completely and swept away into an abyss. It doesn’t sound great, does it? Unfortunately, this could very well become reality. Maybe not during this generation, but eventually. Climate change is a severe issue that affects us all. Icecaps are melting, sea levels are rising, and many Americans are either unaware of the issue or have listened to major politicians dismissing the issue without much knowledge of it.

From the shores of Easter Island all the way to the catastrophic world environmental events like Hurricane Katrina and extreme drought, the world and the environment has been facing unparalleled effects from climate change that have only continued to reach further extences. The dichotomy of climate change can divide the world down the middle. Those who believe in climate change advocate for earth-friendly policy to better the environment and help society as a whole. Those who believe the evidence does not support a climate change theory simply ignore scientists and do not advocate for any type of change in living. However, change is necessary to preserve the planet and maintain the modern democracy- not just in the US, but in the world. Those who deny climate change also deny the chance for cleaner, eventually cheaper energy, long-term jobs, healthier lifestyles, and greater unity between nations. The best and most efficient way to control the path to sustainable, green living is through the government.

Imagine a person going outside. The citizen takes a walk in a nearby park, but no animals are there. There are barely any trees around and the river looks like a stream.

Rising sea levels have caused tide lines to be increased by approximately 9.15 feet (Freedman, #3). This increase in tide makes all surrounding land very susceptible to damage, if a hurricane was to occur. Since studies show that during normal waters, tides can get this high, there is an approximation that water can reach up to 100 feet of just wave water in the event of a hurricane (Carey, #1). Also, because of global warming, sea levels are expected to rise an additional 2 feet in the next century (Freedman, #4). This is due to the melting of icebergs, ice caps, and arctic snow that eventually ends up in the oceans. With this additional 2 foot rise, coastal waters are expected to hit an all-time high. In addition to the rising of the tides, the actual area of the ocean will expand, causing any coastal industries, neighborhoods, or developments, to be highly susceptible of being underwater by the next century.

Not two weeks ago, I was floating on a noodle, beer in hand, life and conversation good; when the topic of climate change came up and I was presented with an opportunity to ponder why people see the same things so differently.

Due to climate change the United States of America is one of the most affected places in the world. Climate change has changed the lives of millions of Americans and is continuing to do so. Climate change has impacted a variety of different environmental events in the US including the weather and natural disasters. The number of wildfires in the US have increased, especially near Western US. With global warming creating warmer springs and summers result in hot and dry forests, the perfect conditions for wildfires. One of the most famous wildfires in US history was the Western Wildfires, which destroyed over 9.2 million acres of land and caused a major disturbance to the environment, the ecosystem and millions of American citizens.

The Earth has not always been as it is today. Periods of climate alterations have occurred over time to land us where we stand today. Around 8200 years ago or 6200 BCE, a surprising event occurred on Earth. The Earth underwent an abrupt climate temperature change. This change is known as the 8.2 ka year event or 8200 year event which refers to the last major climate alteration, a Northern Hemisphere cooling event that occurred approximately 8,200 years before the present. This event was less severe than the Younger Dryas, a cooling event preceding the 8.2, but more severe than the Little Ice Age that occurred after. The event occurred in the Greenland Ice cores during the Holocene, a period in which the Earth had a relatively stable climate.

As the U.S becomes more industrialized, we have noticed severe changes not only in the economy but in the climate as well. Although change is inevitable, the most recent changes we will begin to notice more often in rising sea levels, melting ice and torrential downpours are fierce. Climate change is caused by a multitude of activities. Much of what happens in the future relies strictly on the actions and inactions of what we do now and later. Experiencing a multitude of different dramatic occurrence's, our Earth is suffering because of climate change. With these issues rapidly increasing, there have been organizations put into place in order to make life here on Earth more sustainable.

The evidence supporting the fact that climate change is occurring because of man is strong. It’s just to spread out over so many fields of study that linking them all together and proving it remains elusive. Man-made climate change is very real, despite denial by some and our government’s failure to act, the consequence appear too grave to ignore. Reducing carbon emissions would mean disrupting the livelihood of lots of people, that is usually the reason that people continue to not believe. More people have to be made aware of what is going on, because our governments cannot solve this problem on their own. Climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns. Climate change is a topic that is brought up in many different genres of conversations. Whether it be brought up and discussed in politics, school, family, or friends, some people still limit using those words when in casual conversation. Some of those same people are the people who still deny that climate change is happening. Climate change affects every single one of us. It affects everyone who lives on this earth every day and has long term damages that researches can not even predict yet. A new survey finds that 70 percent of Americans believe the climate is changing, this poll is from Monmouth University in January, 2016. A lot of people are on the fence about supporting climate change and question whether or not the government should take a stand for reducing climate change. As a teen and an upcoming young adult, living in a clean and healthy world means a lot to me. Climate change is not a recent problem, it has been happening for many years.
