Thomas Aquinas believed that God is wisdom and truth. He also believed that the ultimate end of the whole universe is Truth and this is also the aim of the wise. This truth is incarnated in the person of Jesus Christ. He believed that someone who seeks wisdom aims at the truth. He pointed out that the teacher must be the role model for his or her pupils. The students will learn by spending time with the teacher. It is not basically learning by listening. A learner must see how the teacher is living out what he or she teaches. It is necessary that the teacher has good personality and character that can be a model to his or her students. The teacher serves as an exemplar to the students to follow. He or she has the authority to teach the subject matter. This is important because it will show that the teacher is knowledgeable to his or her subject thus his or her students will begin to have faith that what he or she will impart is trustworthy and is the truth. He also believed that faith also applies for the scientific understanding not only in religion. For him, we could not live in this world without faith. Trust and faith in teaching and learning is the most important part of the students and teacher relationship. Learning is not facilitated if there is distant relationship with the teacher and his or her students. This will not promote the trust of the students to the teacher. The students need the right motivation for learning especially the right state which includes the encouragement coming from the teacher. Aquinas also believed that the students must play his or her role for learning. The learner must actively play an important role in the learning process. He believed in progressive education and very interested on how one person is able to transmit his or her knowledge to another.
