Health care is a very expensive issue here in the United Sates and the current system is not sustainable at its current state. Republicans for the last 8 years have tried to replace the current system (ACA) with a more cost effective one, but this has been a daunting task.

Tom Price was confirmed as the secretary of human and health services. The Trump administration was able to finally elect one of the leading figures in the opposition of Obamacare. The political landscape has changed a lot since this confirmation and the uncertainty of the repeal has led to the possibility of more progressive ideas. In a CNN debate with Ted Cruz, Sanders brought up questions regarding the current system and wondered why we continue to rely on premiums and why we continue to enrich insurers that are unreliable. Although, Sanders is a representative of liberal and progressive ideas this idea of universal health is becoming more mainstream with democratic and Republican voters. In a recent Pew poll, the survey showed that 60 percent of respondents believed that the government should be responsible of the coverage of all Americans. Other polls showed that low income Republicans have shown support for universal health care and this comes as an opportunity for politicians in both parties. From a Republican standpoint, this would complete the promise of repealing and replacing Obamacare and it would also solve the problem of the disastrous exchange system. This idea may be too liberal for most Republican politicians as it goes against party lines, but strong support from the democrats and their constituents could alter some of the positions of Republican politicians.

Democrats have less of a political risk in embracing universal health care as it is in line with liberal ideology. This is very important as democrats can run as challengers to the incumbent Republicans and seek to unseat them under the premise of Medicare coverage for everyone. This would also put pressure on Republicans to move further to the center of the political spectra as the fear of losing votes materializes from the massive effects of a complete
