Introduction
In the early days, education was available to those who were rich. Quite a large number of people did not have the opportunity to learn. People learned in schools, colleges and universities. Because of the advancement of the communication era anyone can learn anywhere anyplace anytime.
VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS
Learning is one of the most valuable skills that humans have, which is a continuous process. Centuries ago people learned inside the walls of class rooms, buildings but in the 21st century the way we learn or the environment we study are changing to VLE’s or e-learning. Today people are using digital platforms and modern ways to improve their learning.
“A virtual learning environment (VLE) is a set of

E-learning leads to increased retention and a stronger grasp on the subject (Obringer). This is because many elements are combines with video, audio, quizzes, interaction, etc. students tend to get bored and find it uninterested when lessons were presented orally.
There are different ways VLE’s can improve studying for distant Learners. Firstly, online discussions and forums can be used for conversations and can be useful to exchange ideas between other students. Questions can be posted in forums, and the "peers", "e-Tutor" and "facilitators" can meet them online. For example, if a student has a doubt or something that is not understood, posting it in the forums can be answered. These online tutors are pleased to provide feedback 24 hours. Secondly the learning materials can be viewed and used online. It is more cost effective and environment friendly as it reduces the consumption of papers. Thirdly the digital library can be particularly useful for researching and information gathering provided by the college. This electronic library can be accessed overseas and is an essential resource to students who are studying in a Virtual learning environment. Furthermore, tutors can track the students’ progress, Notice boards and bulletin boards can be used to get lecturers posts, administrative information, class notes or other material (resource.id5497).
There are other methods of studying that are
Whatever the technology, learning is the important element. e-Learning is no longer simply associated with distance or remote learning, but can now form a choice of the best and most appropriate ways of promoting effective learning.
Students learn through an online portal. A known example of such portal is Wawasan Learn. Wawasan Learn is an open university’s portal or also known as Learning Management System (LMS) that is supported by Moodle. Everyone would be aware by now that online learning is very convenient as it is a very flexible learning method. One do not have to travel long distance to learn when they can just use their electronic device such as computer, laptop, ipad, tablets and etc with internet access to learn from their online lesson. Those who are working full time or have children to take care favor this kind of learning method. Not forgetting those gifted or special people that are unable to attend the classes as an ordinary student. Online learning helps the student to enhance their knowledge very clearly and easily with efficient information. It is money saving as well because the students save so much of their transportation cost, textbook cost and many
Due to that, the use of the VLE has increased and most of schools and universities now have a functioning Virtual Learning Environment as a part of their teaching and learning programs. For instance, even in primary and secondary schools the Internet-based activities are generally added to enrich presently learning activities.
With all of the new technology and services being implemented, it may seem that they will be replacing the traditional methods of education. However, this is not the case, both Hallett and Ringenberg agree that a combination of traditional methods and the new ones, are necessary to create an optimal learning environment.“The terminology is blended learning”, says Ringenberg, “what we’re trying to teach teachers to do, is to incorporate different ways of improving the learning process using LMS, so it's not simply to replace pen and paper, but to be able to do more with technology than we could do
E-learning is considered as an alternative training option that provides a more hands-on, interactive approach to learning. Hence, E-learning promotes content in ways in which employees approach, understand and retain information (Trout, 2016). The format of E-learning will be to present information, test the trainees’ learning by having them respond to questions, and provide immediate feedback to the trainee on whether the response was correct.
The good thing about this e-learning is that we can access it anywhere we like, just bring your laptop or your smart phone that will allow you to access the information you needed then, there you have it. It is so convenient cause you can find your comfort in terms of place, pace or time whenever you decided to study. These things can be termed as flexible learning (Gordon, 2015).
Computer based learning, as it stands, has plenty of disadvantages, but many in business and educational arenas remain optimistic about its future. There are two indisputable truths about computer-based learning, or e-learning. First, it will revolutionize education and second, such a future is just around the block. Educational experts agree that most types of study are not yet effective when delivered purely online, mainly because of bandwidth limitations, expensive set-up costs, continued resistance to the medium and a shortage of quality course content.
It makes students more excited to learn. When technology is integrated into school lessons, learners are more likely to be interested in, focused on, and excited about the subjects they are studying. Subjects that might be monotonous for some – like math and science – can be much more engaging with virtual lessons, tutoring, and the streaming of educational videos. Learning is one of important processes in human being life. It is self-evident that human development cannot stand without a proper learning. Since Learning provides unlimited Benefits, people should learn and experience it.
Learning is more than just receiving information. Traditionally learning was to be in campus, where students would interact with one a another, there were no other ways for learners to get educated beside going to the classroom and listening to the instructor. Nowadays the Internet has brought different ways for people to receive information, such as getting education and degrees online. A few years ago online education was never thinkable, and yet it has become to reality and it is widely expanding with popularity. Online education is a type of educational instruction that delivers learning to individuals to their own homes, and it is getting very popular among nontraditional student and others. Individuals prefer online education
Virtual Schooling is a viable entity for educating students ranging from kindergarten to graduate school. The benefits of virtual schooling are continuously being realized as additional avenues for educating students. Additionally, having virtual schooling as a choice, rather than a requirement for all classes, enables educational institutions to maintain and, in some cases, increase their retention and graduation rates. Recent trends in school reporting data supporting the benefits of virtual schooling prove that educating students through distance learning can provide significant benefits, including to those students that learn in a traditional setting.
E-learning has many advantages that make it suitable for the information-age education system. The main advantage is that it puts the learner in the centre of the equation instead of the teacher, trainer or instructor. Others are:
Students who using electronic textbooks were quieter and more active with their work than using the printed textbooks (Maynard & Cheyne, 2005). Most of the students are tend to using e-Books for learning because it is more interesting. They were easy to participate in the group discussion which can increase their learning interactivity. During the group discussion, students can attain a better understanding of the subject. It can enhance their learning capacity and motivate study as to create a good learning
Television was one of the first medias that E-Learning was available by but since it was too expensive and the information was too dry, people started to lose interest (Lyon). Videotapes then evolved and were used in school classrooms (Lyon). When the Internet was invented, E-Learning used it to allow students to work with tutors from various places around the world. Students can work at their own pace thus giving them time to do other activities. Even though there is an issue with bandwidth, there are other optional types of media on the Internet, which uses less bandwidth than others.
e-Learning is a catch-all term that covers a wide range of instructional material that can be delivered on a CD-ROM or DVD, over a local area network (LAN), or on the Internet. It includes Computer-Based Training (CBT), Web-Based Training (WBT), Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS), distance or online learning and online tutorials. The major advantage to students is its easy access. There
