Question

What is the expected frequency of Gg while in Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium if you have an allele frequency of G = 0.1 and g = 0.9 in a two allele system?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Introduction :

According to the Hardy-Weinberg principle, allele frequencies in a population are stable and remain constant throughout generations in the absence of additional evolutionary influences such as gene flow, genetic drift, mutation, genetic recombination and natural selection. Mathematically,

p + q = 1  ;        p2 + 2pq + q= 1  ,   where

p = frequency of dominant allele

q = frequency of recessive allele

p2 = frequency of homozygous dominant genotype

2pq = frequency of heterozygous genotype

q2 = frequency of recessive genotype
