Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The molar absorption coefficient of the dye sample at transmittance of $29$ percent has to be calculated.  The value of transmittance when the path length of cell is $\text{2}\text{.50 mm}$ has to be calculated.

Concept introduction:

Absorbance is the amount of light absorbed by molecules.  On passing light through a sample with incident intensity $I_o$ some amount of light is absorbed and some is transmitted.  The intensity of transmitted light is $I$.  The transmittance of sample is given as $T=\frac{I}{I_o}$.  The absorbance of the sample is given as $A=-\log T$.  According to Beer-Lambert Law, the absorbance of species is linearly proportional to the concentration of absorbing species.  Absorbance is given as $A=\epsilon \left[\text{J}\right]L$.
