Summary Introduction

To determine: The organs whose homeostasis is maintained at the first preference by blood pressure.

Introduction: Homeostasis is the process by which equilibrium conditions are maintained in the body irrespective of changing environmental conditions. For example, the temperature of the human body is maintained at 37°C. However, the environmental temperature changes continuously.

Explanation of Solution

The prime function of the blood pressure homeostasis is to maintain adequate perfusion of blood in the two organs which are described as follows:

  • Heart: The blood flow provides adequate blood to all the tissues of the body. The delivery of appropriate nutrient and oxygen to the tissues maintains the homeostatic balance. In addition to this, veins carrying deoxygenated blood and carbon dioxide also maintain homeostasis in the heart.
  • Brain: The blood flowing to the brain is deficient in oxygen and glucose. In case if an appropriate amount of blood does not reach the brain, it would lead to unconsciousness. Baroreceptors regulate the flow of blood to the brain. It helps in maintaining homeostasis in the brain.
Conclusion

Heart and brain are the organs where maintenance of adequate perfusion is the first priority of blood pressure homeostasis.
