Reducer connection connecting a pipe that carries water with a diameter of A (mm) and another with a diameter of B (mm). If the pressure difference between the two ends of the joint is equal to C (mm) of mercury, calculate the average velocity at the inlet and outlet sections, and find the volumetric flow rate if the loss is small that can be neglected.
A surface condenser deals with 12000 kg of steam per hour. Air
leakage into the condenser is found to be 4 kg/hr. The vacuum and
temperature at the air pump suction are 700 mm of Hg and 36°C
respectively. The barometric pressure is 760 mm Hg. Compute the
volumetric capacity in m'/min of wet air pump.
Find the loss in total pressure for each run in the simple duct system of Fig. 1, using the
equal-friction method and in English unit. The total pressure available for the duct system
is 0.12 in. wg (30 Pa), and the loss in total pressure for each diffuser at the specified flow
rate is 0.02 in. wg (5 Pa). Duct fittings are listed in Table 1. Assume the duct dimeter in
run 1 is 10 in. and the rest are 8 in. Does the duct system require any adjustment?

The figure below shows a hot water tank, with a pumping arrangement to continuously circulate water in a loop. Plastic pipes used, with six bends and two gate valves, as shown. Given that the water is flowing at an average velocity of 2.5 m/s, calculate the required power input for the pump. Given: The density and viscosity of water at 60°C are p = 983.3 kg/m', u = 0.467x103 kg/m-s. Plastic pipes are smooth, and thus their roughness is very close to zero, ɛ = 0. The loss coefficient is K1 = 0.9 for a threaded 90° smooth bend and K1 = 0.2 for a fully open gate valve.
