Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The function of secondary structure proteins in the body needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
The complex level of protein structure is termed as a secondary structure. The coiled and folded structures are formed by polypeptide interactions between the amino acids. They are bonded together with the help of a hydrogen bond.
The different shapes of proteins are very important to their functions.
Answer to Problem 12A
Cell growth and strength and immune protection are related to the structural proteins. The alpha and beta sheets formed a complex structural protein that is helpful for the human body.
Explanation of Solution
In the secondary structure of proteins, the sheets are formed its coiled shape. Two different sheets formed the secondary structure of proteins. This sheet interacted with the other ones present in the opposite direction and formed a coiled structure.
The alpha and beta sheets of secondary structure are helpful for the fibrous and globular proteins.
Fibrous and globular proteins are manufacturing the many portions of the human body.
For example- transport for molecules, storage of molecules, provide mechanical support, etc.
The protein structure is present in a different manner and play a different role in the human body. Transportation of molecules and provides the mechanical supports and many more functions are considered by the different types of proteins.
