To describe:
Which antibiotic to infuse first, gentamicin or ceftazidime, in order to treat the patient suffering from urinary tract infection (UTI) caused by Pseudomonas spp.
Concept introduction:
Gentamicin, a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug, belong to the drug group termed as aminoglycosides. This group consists of semi-synthetic and natural antibiotics and shows a potential bactericidal activity. This makes aminoglycosides as the choice of drugs for the treatment of specifically virulent infections. The levels of these drugs in the serum are regularly monitored in the blood samples collected from the patients. Ceftazidime is a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug used in the treatment of infections caused by urinary tract, lungs, and brain. This antibiotic is a beta-lactam, third-generation cephalosporin with the ability to kill bacteria.
