Chapter 9.3, Problem 5SB
Summary Introduction
To review:
The reason that the pathway is turned off if there is no more signaling molecules present in the extracellular fluids in the cAMP (cyclic 3’, 5’-adenosine monophosphate) second-messenger pathway.
Introduction:
The cAMP stands for cyclic 3’, 5’-adenosine monophosphate. It is a comparatively small and water-soluble molecule that is a derivative of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). The enzyme adenylyl cyclase is responsible for the conversion of ATP to cAMP. The cAMP molecules pass through the cytoplasm and lead to the activation of the protein kinases, which attach a phosphate group to the target proteins.
