Reflection of APA I intend to pursue a degree in the medical field. Upon undertaking a job in the medical field, numerous college professors will require you to grasp how to write APA style. APA stands for the American Physiological Association and is generally used in social sciences. All through during high school MLA has been stressed as the major style of writing, assuming APA will be difficult to write is outside of my jurisdiction. MLA and APA have several similarities. Both text styles are double spaced, must include either a “references” or “work cited” page, and anything that is not original must be cited. In contrast, papers written in APA and MLA will have an evident difference in appearance. APA always requires a title page
APA format establishes credibility and allow readers to follow the writer’s ideas with clarity and fluidity, it prevents distraction and focuses on a specific target as audience (McDonald, 2011). As indicated by McDonald (2011), APA format also provides a specific writing style guidelines that explains the writer’s point of view as well as expressing ideas. In addition, APA format prevents protects against plagiarism, by giving credit to sources which includes any form of media from interviews to video or images included in the writing (McDonald, 2011).
The purpose of this paper is to provide you with written instructions on some of the basic guidelines with the new APA format (American Psychological Association, 2009). In addition, this paper is written in APA format to provide you with a visual image of how many aspects of papers should be written, from the title page, to headings, to references in text, and the reference page. This paper is not met to be a comprehensive explanation of APA format, but will provide the reader with the basics. So, please buy the manual and read it.
When this class started at the beginning of this semester I was not sure I would learn a lot. The main objectives of this class were fairly simple. There were five main objectives to use and know. They are the following:
In Honors English III, Mrs. Bryce assigned the class a research project. Although we were allowed to work in groups, all of the writing portions were expected to be done individually. We were allowed do to research on any topic that we wanted. Unlike most papers we had written, this paper would be written in APA format. Some of the work would be done in class, such as the Introduction and Literature Review. However, most of it was expected to be done outside of school. Some additional requirements was that we had a minimum of three data collection sources and three findings from them.
I agree with you, MLA was once upon a time the only style the I knew. I will be just like you always going to revisit the APA section in our library. I still hit some roadblocks but I would have to say our professor would be the best way to clear up all questions, or better yet lead you in the best direction to solve the issue.
Reading week provided me an abundant amount of time to catch up on my courses (literally just economics) and work on my MSDA. The night before, I decided I did not really have to prepare anything for my MSDA pitch, it’d be a good representation of my creative abilities and see what I could come up with on the spot. It went pretty well I would say. Had sprained my ankle again two weeks ago so I was charged up and raring to kick some ass this week. Brought home another win for the flag team with 1td and 3 interceptions, alongside another W for the ultimate team, who were now 5-0. The responsibility of designing our NETA presentation and the application for our product was pinned on me. At this point my group members knew I was taking control and were willing to offer the responsibility
If you don’t own the APA Style Manual, you should at least be very familiar with APA writing style requirements. A good resource is the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) at http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ TCU also has a writing lab (http://www.wrt.tcu.edu/default.asp?cat=staff&staff=11) that can be very helpful if you choose to access it as a resource. I expect writing to be well-edited and to align with APA style requirements. Editing well is akin to putting on a business suit for an interview. Poor editing is akin to showing up for an interview in cutoffs and a t-shirt with mustard stains—not impressive!
I found the information in the Read section very helpful this week. I never thought about studying and doing school work in a designated spot. I do not know about others, but it is hard for me to study in the same place every time. I have a husband, dogs, kids, and a friend all living in my home it can get very chaotic. When I get home from work I go straight to my bedroom where it is quiet to do my studies, but sometimes my husband wants to watch television in the bedroom. After doing my reading this week I followed the suggestions and I set up a specific spot to study. I also created a weekly schedule so I can manage my time more efficiently. I hope this will help me to be successful with my school work.
During my first few months here at Bethel I have learned quite a bit about writing. I have learned about APA writing skills, punctuation, paragraphs and time management thus far. College writing is different than what I did in high school so it has taken some learning for sure.
My students take the AP Literature and Composition Exam; I have taught the course for four years. The year before I started, student were hand-selected for AP Literature and Composition, and only 9 of 26 students earned qualifying scores (3's or higher). My first year we had just shifted to open enrollment and nearly half of my 50 students were not honors or hand-picked students. Still, our passing percentage inched up from 34 to 36 percent. Numbers keep increasing--I have 70 this year--but our passing percentages are holding steady or increasing slightly, more students overall are earning qualifying scores and, most importantly, more students have access to rigorous coursework that will better prepare them for college whether or not they "pass"
I share the same concerns on my writing as you. The APA guidelines are a continuing source of learning of rime. It is a goal of mine to master the APA guidelines. Regarding the course writing assignments I appreciate the Rubics. It serves as a map for me when I am completing my writing assignments. The Rubic also helps with the flow of my papers. When I am writing my assignments I approach my paper as a puzzle and allow the Rubics to serve as my guide. It is easier and less complicated for me to research, write and compile my paper. It may sound a little off but the process works for me. The information in the APA writing guide is extremely helpful. I am able to answer questions regarding my writing by referring the APA writing guide (APA,
One of the most interesting things that I have learned in this class would be how to write in text citations properly. Considering I had never used APA style writing before I came to Bethel, I think that I have gotten better at them. I also feel like my sentence structure has gotten better since the beginning of this class.
Overall, I believe I have benefited from taking this course. I am thankful for the writing assignments which exposed me to APA writing and citation. Likewise, I became more effective at researching, the reading of, and paraphrasing journal articles. I felt that adequate time was given for class assignments. Likewise, the power points were very helpful while reading the chapters from my textbook. It was helpful that paper assignments lined up with current reading in the textbook. I liked the fact that discussion boards were not the only way we interacted with classroom content. The example papers were a big help when completing writing assignments. Finally, the things I will always remember from this course was the positive feedback
American Psychological Association (APA) writing style exists for a reason and this reason is because writers' must give “credibility where credibility is due”(Walden Writing Center, 2015) . During my BSW program I learned this and also, the importance of integrity in college level writing. In my opinion, two aspects of APA that I think will not challenge me are direct quotations and listing references. I have to admit I prefer to quote intellecutual matter directly rather than, use paraphazing. I believe this is approriate to do if the quote you utilize is short and all of your agrguments regarding, the content of the quote, are your own ideas. Another thing that will come easily to me is listing my references. This comes easily to me because during my undergraduate education, I excelled in this area. The reason for this is because everytime I wrote a reference page I always refered to my courses APA manual.
As I sat in my AP literature class, only a month before college applications were due, I felt as if there was something high school wasn't offering me. I wasn't able to express myself as much as I wanted to. Then my teacher began talking about college and I began to worry that i wouldn't find a good enough school. I came to the conclusion that it was time to decide.I wanted to go somewhere far, away from my neighborhood, but my parents wanted me to go to George Mason because of how close it was. I told them that I would go on a tour, in the hopes that I wouldn't like it and convince my parents to go somewhere else. I ended up finding what I was looking for all along. The school was nothing like I expected, and nothing like the forty tours I
