Child Psychology Outline

Child development theories provide various explanations of how children progress, and some also provide answers as to why certain outcomes or behaviors occur as a child grows. Two theories provide the best perspective regarding development when the two processes are used collectively: behavioral theory and cognitive developmental theory.

Early identification of speech, language or communication delay is important for a child or young persons’ well-being. All practitioners have a responsibility to identify children’s needs and intervene with appropriate support as early as possible, to help children achieve the goals of ‘Every Child Matters’ and progress towards the Early Learning Goals. The importance of early language and communication skills for children’s later achievements is now well documented and the need to provide support for children at this early stage is so that they can achieve their full potential. Why it is difficult for researchers to isolate specific causes of child behaviour - using two of your own examples. How is the term “correlation” a solution to this problem?

The Child Study data I have gathered comes from the observation I have completed at Mission Bell Elementary School. Mission Bell Elementary School is a local school in Riverside. In the P.M preschool class there are 24 students, one teacher, and one assistant. The child I decided to observe is names Zoe. Zoe is 4 years and 10 months old. Psychology is diverse, and there are many diverse specialty areas available to individuals seeking a career in the field of psychology. Most Psychologists choose to specialize in subfields that focus on specific subjects. Obtaining a profession in any of the specialty areas would require graduate study in that area of interest. Some professionals have a broad general knowledge, are skilled in several areas, and work with a range of clients. Some are specialist in treating a specific type of psychological disorder, or work with a specific age group. For those interested in specializing in a psychology career, developmental Psychology is one of the many fields available.

When an infant arrives in the world they are helpless tiny humans who depend on adults for every need from love, to feeding them. It is amazing how these tiny babies grow into adults able to make decisions and become self-dependent. There are many theories about how children develop and what roles the environment plays, what people affect their lives and how events can shape their personalities. Some of these children have and easy life and some have a harder time making that journey to adulthood.

Childhood studies is a subject area surrounding the study of children’s lives through many different concepts or ideas with many different features. It is related to many different fields such as law, history, sociology, health, anthropology and much more as Martin Woodhead (Open University) said “It uses multiple methods rather than just singular methods” and is “inter-disciplinary” Childhood studies expresses and tries to understand the many different parts of a child’s life and the different issues surrounding childhood, therefore it has many different features.

At one point in our lives or another, we have all been to school, we have all been into the lunchroom, and we have all seen those few children that sit by themselves and don’t say anything, don’t look around, and don’t seem even the least bit interested. The greater parts of society looks at these odd children and then brushes them off and say to themselves “Oh they are just weird, I wouldn’t want to be their friend either.” But have you ever stopped and thought maybe its something deeper? Maybe these kids have a mental disorder that causes them to be that way. Maybe, just maybe, its not even their own choice but its forced upon them by abusive and neglectful parents that obliterate their children’s trust so far that they cant even

that effect a young child’s mind disrupting the learning abilities and upsetting the moral balance.

Socialization has a significant impact on the way that children perceive themselves when they are younger and usually continues to affect them as they grow into adulthood. Thus, sometimes resulting in this defiant, uncontrollable behavior. Children are born into this world without any knowledge of the social culture. They must go through a long sociological developmental process in which parents and other influences, attempt to transform them into socially competent individuals.
