The capacity of sexual feelings within the individual is central to both the development and fundamental basis of any significant character. The title of the movie is “Something About Amelia.” That something, is the case that a father has been forcing his daughter, Amelia, to have sexual intercourse with him for almost two years. “Something About Amelia” revolves around a typical, middle-class family named the Bennetts. The father, Steven, is your classic white-collar worker and honest-looking man. The mother, Gail, is a working mom. It is apparent in the beginning of the film, that Steven and Gail have reach a standstill in their marriage and a decline in sexual fulfillment.

For those interested in specializing in a psychology career, developmental Psychology is one of the many fields available.

Childhood studies is a subject area surrounding the study of children’s lives through many different concepts or ideas with many different features. It is related to many different fields such as law, history, sociology, health, anthropology and much more as Martin Woodhead (Open University) said “It uses multiple methods rather than just singular methods” and is “inter-disciplinary” Childhood studies expresses and tries to understand the many different parts of a child’s life and the different issues surrounding childhood, therefore it has many different features.

Freud’s analytic theory states that all psychic energy comes from the libido. The libido covers all sexual drives and desires of a person. Drive contains both body and mind according to Freud, which explains why Steve is constantly thinking about sex and trying to have it. In this case study I will describe the observation of a child while applying psychodynamic thinking and theory. The whole observation took place in a secondary school within a 9 week period, one hour every week. However, I was able to observe this particular child 6 times as at the beginning I was given a different child. Due to the fact that the first child was not attending the lessons they had to change him and find me a different one. For confidentiality reasons all the names that will be referred in this case study are going to be pseudonymous. Social behavior and mental functioning of an individual are explained by exploring the neurological and physiological processes. These include emotions, cognition, perception, motivation, attention, brain functioning and personality. Child psychology is as well stated to be the application of psychological techniques to children where it involves carrying out research on mental states and development of children. The development of the child both physically, mentally and emotionally, with the help of a parent allows the identification of helpful information to any evolving challenges in child’s behavior and

There are a few human sexuality themes that I noticed in this film. The first and most obvious theme that I noticed is how the film goes against the stereotypes that media places of sexuality and age. At often times, younger people are seen to have vibrant sexual relationship. The thing that I can admire about this film is that it shows sex between older people. Most people have misconceptions that when people achieve a certain age, they no longer have sex. This stereotype is not true. People who are in their 50’s and up can still have very healthy active sex lives. This stereotype was something that the characters in the film seemed to struggle with. Both Jane and Jake were trying to fight the aging to seem more physically attractive. For example, Jane considered getting a facelift to compete with her ex’s young wife. Jane also seemed to be very influenced by her friend’s ideas on love and sex; their perspective seemed to alter her perspective. In the beginning, she was very conflicted in expressing her sexuality. She dealt with this struggle by succumbing to what they believed she needed to do in her own sex life.

From a Freudian perspective human development is based on psychosexual theory. From a psychosexual perspective maturation of the sex drives underlies stages of personality development (Shaffer et al., 2010). Ultimately, Freud believed that sex was the most important instinct and any mental disturbance revolved around sexual conflicts that were suppressed from childhood. Furthermore, Freud believed that parents permitting too much or too little gratification of sexual needs led
