We’re two seasons into the College Football Playoff system that supplanted the BCS format and one thing is certain — The Playoff is working.

Yes, No. 1 Clemson and No. 2 Alabama were the last two teams standing this season — And yes, both teams won their semifinal matchups in convincing fashion — But let’s not forget about last year’s CFP where the No. 4 seed Ohio State Buckeyes had a “Cinderella”-type ending to their season after taking down No. 1 Alabama, followed by a 22-point victory over the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Television ratings improved significantly in first year of the CFP. According to the Los Angeles Times, last year’s Playoff Championship game’s ratings were up 21 percent compared to the 2014 Vizio BCS National Championship game featuring Florida State and Auburn. The inaugural CFP Championship game was the second-most viewed college football championship game in history. According to Adweek, an estimated 33 million viewers tuned in to last year’s CFP National Championship game between the Buckeyes and Ducks. The most-viewed title game distinction belongs to the 2006 BCS Championship game (35.6 million viewers) between the USC Trojans and Texas Longhorns. …show more content…
