There is no doubt that being in the profession of corrections is an exceedingly stressful and dangerous profession. Corrections officers are one of the highest rated for non-fatal on-the-job injuries, which usually result from confrontations with inmates. These confrontations are anything from riots, fights, and even having excrement being throw at them by inmates. When being confronted with these challenges on a daily basis, fraternity and brotherhood are crucial. It is vital for your fellow corrections officer to “have your 6”. Being a corrections officer is more than guarding inmates, it is protecting your fellow officers and protecting the inmates from themselves, even though at times the inmates wish harm upon you. We all must remember, corrections officers are cops without guns and a lot more criminals. To civilians, that it a nightmare that we could never imagine. It is of the utmost importance that the PSCOA operate as a “fraternal organization,” because it is impossible to trust and depend on one another. The ultimate goal for each officer is to maintain order and to get home every night in one piece.

The US Correctional System has many different types of punishments, which are based upon the type of crime the offender commits. Murder, Rape and Identity theft are all crimes, crimes that carry different types of punishments. Some crimes such as murder for example have different levels that are based on it nature, first, second, and third degree murder are all three types of murder but carry a different punishment. There are some crimes though that does not carry a large jail or prison sentence such as driving under the influence (DUI). This type of crime is most like going to sentence the offender to alcohol awareness (AA) classes as a form of punishment, in hopes of rehabilitating the offender to give up

There are several different categories an correctional officer an be assigned to. This is what a day of being an officer consist of.

Within our setting we carry out daily checks to ensure that the environment inside and outside is safe before the morning session starts.

The parole board is a court that decides whether to let prisoners, or other dangerous offenders back into the community. The board is the heart of the Criminal Justice System. The parole board concerns are in the most high-profile cases, where the sentence is indefinable to the judge or oral hearings. Each case is like a detective investigation, but if it is completed the wrong way it can be fatal. Furthermore, parole boards have to determine if a crime will take place if they release someone from prison. The truth is that the risk is not something boards can calculate accurately, which means they are assessing life and death risks that are ultimately imponderable. Moreover, the other truth is that sometimes parole boards get it wrong, there will always be a proportion of offenders that boards let out who will reoffend.

There are many people who are critical of the US‘s prison sysetm; the idea of locking up those who commit crimes against a society simply to keep them from doing harm. Many say that more rehabilatation is necessary to improve these individuals and, therefore, society as a whole. What are some ways of doing this? Do you agree/disagree with this view and why? The correctional system has three main goals: punish, protect the community and rehabilitate the offender. However, it is unclear how well the modern U.S correctional system achieves these goals and whether the money invested in the correctional system might be better spent. These are some of the points I will cover regarding what I think about the correctional system.

The minimum security is federal prison camps adjacent to other federal prisons near military bases. Male prisoners who need only minimum security are set up in camps and those who will be transitioned [Passive voice] back into society and served their sentence will be set-up in a halfway house.

Our own personal hygiene is of most importance. It’s good practice to start the day clean and tidy, with particular attention paid to fingernails, which should be kept short and clean; hair should be clean and tied back if it’s long.

What are some challenges that correctional administrators are faced with regarding the population of inmates? This may be a question that many people do not consider. Correctional administrators have to work very hard and be creative to ensure that all inmates, regardless of their challenges, needs are being met. The challenges of typical inmates are characterized by those that are mentally ill, elderly, and female inmates.

The purpose an action plan is to get rid of the issue, and fix it for good. Also to get as many people to be involved and inform about a serious problem. An action plan is a great way to structure and start off fighting for change. Educating the public is an important step, so that people can be informed about what they are fighting for and how to back themselves and inmates. Inmates should be able to report any concerns about their treatments, and safety. Lastly there should be a way to prevent inmates from being sentenced to jail, and preventing any crimes to be done.

The realities of correctional enterprise concur with justifications of punishments with some cases. All criminals are not the same. There are criminals that need help but do not get help there for result in criminal activity. Then there are the criminals that are flat out insane. The correctional stage can be effective; it just depends on the sanity of the criminal.
