Introduction In six weeks it was a lot of information to contain and learn. There will be a brief statement that goes over the things that I have learned in class. The paper will also discuss the issues of diversity in learning and memory. It will go over various approach that counselor and therapist use, it will explain the similarities and the difference from each other. There are five theories that could help a person deal with their problems.
My experience in from class In these six weeks there was a lot of information that I gain and could use in my professional and personal life. In class I learn how these approaches which cognitive approach, behavioral, and the neuroscience approaches is very vital in learning. I can take these approaches

I agree with the article when it states that diversity made learning very difficult and it has increased the generalization of novel items which is outside of the range of training. The article provides a good example how diversity could affect a person memory and how they learn by doing a study their study had proof that the, “participants who learned the diverse category were less sensitive to psychological distance than were the participants who learned a more clustered category” (). In the article of Effects of category diversity on learning, memory, and generalization, has examine the people ability careful to see if the person can learn to categories that was induction over exemplar and they also particular how diversity of training exemplars had affected the person rate of learning and the pattern of generalization and seeing if they could distinguish the new exemplars from the ones that was old. When someone talk about diversity in the normative terms it defines as diverse evidence that gave a stronger rise to the indictive argument and the principle of diversity has emphasized big on the philosophy of science when a person considers the experimental work that has be provide through research and evidence in the philosophy of science. In the research there were many studies that was conducted on adults that was on the similarity that was found that was dealing with diversity influence category processing which is the nature and the influence has remained
The American Psychological Association has since established guidelines for diversity in experiments that are conducted. In the book Research and Evaluation in Education and Psychology Donna Mertens explains the guidelines for diversity as “recognition of the ways in which the intersection of racial and ethnic group membership with other dimensions of identity…enhances the understanding and treatment of all people” (Mertens 313).
Diversity has many definitions but only one true meaning. This concept Analysis is dedicated to exploring the broadened sense of diversity through active concepts with respect to term usage, and current literature research to support the understanding and relevance of the term itself.
A lack of knowledge or a poor understanding of diversity can lead to negative prejudices being formed, stereotyping, and discriminatory conduct. For example;
In my initial post, I wanted to learn more about myself and those that I am around daily. In fact, I should have given more detail since I am interested in learning about how to communicate effectively with different personality types because I supervise many different individuals. In reality, I feel that this will give me a gateway to evaluate myself as a teacher and learn what works best for each employee. Also, we find that when we understand the people that we are around it makes us more effective leaders which can lead to a more successful workplace (Dibra, 2014). However, I have found that this class offered so much more than I first realized. During the last four weeks, we have discussed that sleep plays such a significant role in repairing our bodies, sleep deprivation can cause serious health issues, the beauty industry and environmental factors can lead to an unhealthy lifestyle, and the differences in the parenting styles. We have covered several areas in our comment section that consist of how the mind and nervous system are associated by having overlapping patterns of activity, how brain trauma can affect an individual and the discussion of neuroscience as it relates to the criminal justice system (Cacioppo & Freberg, 2013). Also, we have learned how the
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
When I started this class this pass September I had a little knowledge of psychology. In my junior year of high school I took Psychology as an elective class. I really enjoy it alot, it amaze me how much there was to know about our brains. This September I came with the feeling that this psychology class was going to be way different from my psychology class from high school. And that my knowledge from my class before wasn’t going to be useful at all. But I was wrong, this class has actually been better than my other class. Because it has help dust off some of the concepted that I had learn before. But it has also made gain more knowledge about psychology that I didn’t knew before. For example the next concepts are the ones that had impacted me the most: critical thinking and the eight essential, implicit learning, short term and long term memories. I chose these concept because they have not only taught me more about psychology, but they have made a big impact on me.
During week one, my initial definition of learning was listening to an instruction, studying and then rehearsing that information in my mind, or categorizing it in a way so I could remember most of what was taught in the course. The class has opened a new dimension for me in the learning process; from understanding how I process information to deciphering which learning processes I use in intentional learning or metacognition. Understanding my learning patterns form dynamic learning relationship is a key element to my view of how and why I process the learning experience, even relating it to every day life.
I have discovered some interesting things I have noticed in myself before taking this course. For example, my learning style I have noticed is the visual learning style.
This course has affected my development as a student in many ways. It has taught me the importance of being stress free. I have learned that using the time and stress management tools and strategies has helped me get closer to my goals. Achieving my goals depends mainly on me and being less stressful. Time and stress management go hand to hand and one doesn’t work without the other. I learned to become better at time management. This has allowed me to get more important task done and put off the not so important ones. This course has prepared me very well for my academic success. It has taught me about my learning styles and what works best for me. Although I’m a visual/ auditory learner, I sometimes find myself wanting to take things hands on. These are some of the things that has affected me in my development as a student.
It is my hypothesis that diverse backgrounds have a great effect on the ability for a student to learn. I am not suggesting that a student from one background is less likely to learn than the student from a completely different background. I do predict that if educators do not take to heart the diverse backgrounds of their students at both the lower and upper levels of education than the student will suffer in one degree or another.
Being around people who are different from us makes us more creative, more diligent and harder-working.
Memory makes us. It is, to an extent, a collection of unique and personal experiences that we, as individuals, have amassed over our lifetime. It is what connects us to our past and what shapes our present and the future. If we are unable remember the what, when, where, and who of our everyday lives, our level of functioning would be greatly impacted. Memory is defined as or recognized as the “sum or total of what we remember.” Memory provides us the ability to learn and adjust to or from prior experiences. In addition, memory or our ability to remember plays an integral role in the building and sustaining of relationships. Additionally, memory is also a process; it is how we internalize and store our external environment and experiences. It entails the capacity to remember past experiences, and the process of recalling previous experiences, information, impressions, habits and skills to awareness. It is the storage of materials learned and/or retained from our experiences. This fact is demonstrated by the modification, adjustment and/or adaptation of structure or behavior. Furthermore, we as individuals, envision thoughts and ideas of the present through short-term memory, or in our working memory, we warehouse past experiences and learned values in long-term memory, also referred to as episodic or semantic memory. Most importantly, memory is malleable and it is intimately linked to our sense of identity and where we believe we belong in the world.
Applying these four themes- family influences, physical development, cognitive development, and personality development- throughout my lifespan, it has shown me that I have become a stronger individual. Even though, my family is not perfect I have learned the right and wrong this to do if I ever decide to get married and raise a family of my own. Being a "miracle" baby, writing this paper opened my eyes as to how close I was from not existing today, which has shown me to not take like for granted and to live in the present. Furthermore, having an education program like AVID helped me completely turn my life around. It has helped me to push myself into becoming a better individual and to strive to achieve any goals and dreams that I decide to pursue. To continue, my personality I believe that school has helped me in dealing with my parents divorce but, I think that during that time in my life I learned to put a barrier up around certain people at times. I do not think this is a healthy thing for me to keep doing and I am going to make changes in my life to help correct that. Finally, this was my journey into my childhood and how I discovered things about me that helped shape the way I am
The next type of diversity is differences in skills and abilities. One of the most important factors when considering skills and abilities is that individuals will often adapt their behavior so they are making use of what they consider their positive skills and abilities. For example, consider the case of an individual who believes that they have very effective written communication skills but very poor oral communication skills. This individual is likely to adapt his or her behavior so they write as much as possible, while avoiding communicating orally. As a specific example, this individual might prepare memos or write emails as a way of communicating with their employees, instead of having a meeting with employees. This illustrates how people tend to adapt their behavior so they are using their positive qualities, while avoiding having to use their weaker skills and abilities.
This essay will attempt to highlight and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the three main theories of counselling within the module covered this term. The three approaches in discussion are psychodynamics, cognitive behavioural and humanistic.
