A large environmental factor that can affect food deficiency and food insecurity is natural hazards and disasters. These can include droughts and floods which can upset agricultural production. In conclusion, hunger in America is at an all time high due to poverty and the economy. The increasingly high number of starving children has gone up over the past years and needs to be stopped. There are government programs set up to help stop hunger in American, such as, SNAP Food Stamps and WIC. We can get involved by volunteering with Feeding America or other non-for-profit organizations set for feeding the hungry. Food donations and monetary donations have always been a great way to help out for those who don’t have the time to donate.

For 35 years Feeding America has responded to America hunger emergencies, and has done a good job at it. The perception of food banks was started by John Van Hengel in the late 60s. Van Hengel born in Waupun, WIi, a retired businessman, was volunteering his time at soup kitchens giving food to people who couldn’t buy food for themselves. One day a poor mom was fishing through the grocery store garbage bins to find food for her family, She suggested that there should be a place where, instead of being thrown out, discarded food could be stored for people to pick up—similar to the way “banks” store money for future use. The health of many women in Algeria which is part of Sub-Saharan Africa in 1990 were impacted by the poor health care system because they lived in poverty. Poverty caused these women to lack essential needs to live a quality life. They lacked or could not afford resources such as supplies, health care professionals, and facilities for healthcare, clean water, and waste disposal. This ultimately affected the health of women and their children. For instance, lack of clean water and waste disposal facilities can cause health abnormalities such as cholera or typhoid fever which can cause devastating deaths. This is a healthcare problem because of the lack of funding. The lack of funding prevents antibiotics from being used to prevent death, and prevents African’s from being vaccinated against typhoid fever. Another example of how poverty affects woman’s health is unintended pregnancy, which is because they are more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior. It's part of the health crisis because it includes a poor health system, and a lack of education about proper nutrition and behaviors during pregnancy. Complications in these pregnancies due to poor nutrition and not visiting the doctor regularly includes increased infant mortality. One of the most problematic issues in America is hunger. Many people day by day from a young age as adults struggle to stay on their feet not only to feed themselves, but other individuals. Poverty is the main cause which leads young generations to fall, due to the standard requirements that they may need to meet, but don't qualify. Gongloff within his article mentioned, “More than 45 million people, or 14.5 percent of all Americans, lived below the poverty line.” This demonstrates how even the most stable country has citizens dealing with starvation, no matter how rich or poor the country is. A remarkable organization dealing with hunger is Feeding America. Feeding America started in the year 1979, which was created by John van Hengel in Phoenix, Arizona. Today, Feeding America is the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization which is a very powerful and successful network. It contains 200 food banks across the country which helps provide food to more than 46 million people through 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. The social problem is being addressed by Feeding America by nursing millions of children and adults who do not get the meals they need to meet the nutrimental provisions in order to help the people build a path to a brighter, food-secure future. For those people who donate just $1 the organization can serve 11 meals which can make a big difference. The sector in which the organization operates in, is the social sector, which includes the government, private, and nonprofit organization. Most of the funding comes from Allstate, Nationwide foundation, Bank of America, Dean Food, Disney and many more. His idea spread to other cities and eventually carried enough of an impact to cause other countries to follow suit and open food banks as well. John’s concept of a food bank is the same as a typical bank. This being born when overhearing a mother talking about how difficult it was to feed her family.

There are so many people in this world today, that are not aware of the huge storage in our local food bank community. Per the Houston food bank the goal of the Feeding America program is to make food accessible to feed hungry people in their greatest times of need. Therefore, our team is gear up to break the food shortage in defining the problem, analyze the cause, identify criteria, potential solutions and selecting the best solution.

Neurological complications may result not only from damage caused by the virus itself, but also from other side effects of HIV and AIDS, such as cancers that are associated with these diseases. Not only this, but as a result of the poor economy and access to food, brain development in the womb is affected and as well as lactating women won't be able to provide for their children suffering from lack of nutrition. The goal of our organization is to jumpstart the economy in the poorer parts of the nation in order to create long term stable jobs to allow people to afford food, education, and treatment.
