“Its the importance of intervening early, ideally in the first year or two of life or even before the child is born” (Kristof 51). Before a child is even born, there is steps every mother can take to ensure a good life for their child. A doctor cant always guarentee that a baby will be healthy, but a mother taking precautions in their own life and health can always give a better chance for a child to live a healthy life. “Within four weeks of conception, a human embryo has formed a neural tube, which then begins to produce brain cells. As the brain is forming, it is shaped by the uterine environment in ways that will affect the child for the rest of his or her life. There is many ways to help provoke the importance and prevent woman from drinking alcohol while they are pregnant. The general public can help reenforce this issue with very very low costs and efforts. One idea is a booklet called Be Good to Your Baby Before It Is Born, that targets Middle School adolesents through Adults. “This 13-page booklet provides tips for a healthy pregnancy and baby. In addition to highlighting the dangers associated with drinking, smoking or taking other drugs during pregnancy, the following topics are discussed: prenatal care; going to your health care provider; making healthy food choices; common concerns of pregnant women; labor, delivery and breast feeding; planning your first or next pregnancy; health problems that can affect your pregnancy; and a glossary of helpful words to know”(MPRC 10). This booklet is thirteen pages long and retails at eight dollars for fifty copies. It has contact information for mothers right here in Minnesota as well! Another idea is a poster that comes from the Minnesota Prevention Resource Center, called Safest Choice Posters. The message in this poster is “Don’t drink alcohol when you're pregnant. It is your safest choice”(MPRC 17). This specific poster targets men and woman of childbearing age. It retails for three
