The Buckeyes have dominated Michigan since the turn of the century, winning 12 of the 14 matchups between the two schools from 2001-2014. With a 10-3 record in his first season as Michigan’s head coach, Harbaugh is bringing life back to a rivalry that many consider the best in college football.
Because of Harbaugh’s return to the school he once quarterbacked for, interest in the Buckeyes and Wolverines rivalry was at its highest in nearly a decade last season. Yet, Ohio State continued its dominance over Michigan as Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer welcomed Harbaugh to the rivalry with a 42-13 beatdown in Ann Arbor, Mich. Meyer has revived one of college football’s elite programs since he accepted the Buckeyes’ head coaching duties in 2012, totaling 50 wins

In 1989, on the eve of the final championship game, Steve Fisher became the head coach for Michigan State. He and the team went on to win the championship. Even though they won Steve didn’t really get the credit for the game since he had just been hired the night before. With the next season fast approaching fans and critics were anxious to see if the new coach had good recruiting skills.

How many of you watch sports? Over the next decade Bobby Bowden would lead his Seminoles to a post season bowl game every season except 1981. The loss to Oklahoma in the 1981 Orange Bowl would be Bowden’s last loss in a bowl game for the next fifteen years. In 1987 Bobby coached his Seminoles to what would be the first of a 14 year long streak in which they won 10 or more games.

The “contradiction at the heart of big-time college football,” as Michael Oriard describes it, is the competing demands of marketing and education. The 1890s proved to university administrators that there was an enormous market for collegiate football, which postulated opportunities for university building. Since this ubiquitous realization, there has coincided this blatant, yet unchanging contradiction that academic institutions are permitted to profit off of the services provided by its student-athletes while the athletes must idly accept that they are amateurs, donating their efforts to their respective schools. The schools then direct this revenue toward strengthening their athletic departments, and thus continues this seemingly endless growth of big-time college sports, all while athletes remain uncompensated and academics continue to take a backseat.
I’ve been hearing about the Ohio vs Michigan rivalry for a long time but had never payed attention to it until now. I’m not a big fan of college football but being in Ohio I had to come across this topic. I’ve had professors and multiple friends mention it, and I’ve heard about this rivalry multiple times on TV. The reason why I finally payed attention to this topic is because I heard a friend of mine talking about the Ohio vs Michigan football game, while I was trying to notice how history affects my life on an everyday basis.

Oregon was led by head coach Chip Kelly, Sophomore quarterback Darron Thompson, and speed running back LaMichael James. Led by a very good running attack the Oregon Ducks prevailed with a win by a score of 52-31, running back LaMichael James had thirty one carries for two hundred and fifty seven yards and three touchdowns. While, Stanford’s power running back,
For the coaching observation project I observed the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Urban Meyer. I watched him on TV when Ohio State played Penn State. The reason I selected Urban Meyer to do my coaching observation is because he is the coach I decided to model my coaching philosophy after. The reason I chose this game specifically is because this is a very important game and I want to see how he handles his team in high-pressure situations.
