Ansel Adams is a famous American photographer. He is well known for capturing images of the American West. Ansel was born in San Francisco, California on February 20, 1902. As a toddler Ansel was in “the great earthquake and fire of 1906” (Turnage). This caused him to break his nose and kept him a lasting mark all through his life. With having a broken nose and being shy while in school years Ansel was not successful with fitting in. Ansel Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984) was a photographer and environmentalist born in San Francisco, California. He was the only child and son of Charles Hitchcock Adams, a businessman, and Olive Bray. When he was four years old, the aftershock of the great earthquake of 1906 threw him to the ground and badly broke his nose that marked him for the rest of his life. In 1907, the family fortune collapsed in a financial panic and his father spent the rest of his life trying to recover. His parents and the presence of his mother’s sister created an environment that was Victorian. Intelligent, timid, and his nose injury, caused Adams to have trouble in school. The Adams family was known to be lavishly wealthy, but in 1907 the family’s wealth tired tremendously causing his father to spend the rest of his life trying to build back the family’s fortune. Through it all, he found a love for nature and its surrounding elements. Shortly after, he taught himself how to read music and to play the piano, later becoming a professional pianist by 1920, only to end his career to take up photography in nature thanks to a Kodak no.1 box brownie camera his parents had given him in earlier years. Samuel Adams is a well-known character in our history books, but his name is also shared a well-known beer. While Samuel Adams the man was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1722, Samuel Adams the beer was created in 1985 in the same city (Frankel, Samuel Adams and the American Revolution) (Boston Brewing Company, Samueladams.com). What prompted the naming a beer after a historical figure? The founder of Samuel Adams Boston Lager, Jim Koch, said that he “chose the name because Samuel Adams was a Boston firebrand, a revolutionary thinker who fought for independency” (Boston Brewing Company, Samueladams.com). What made Samuel Adams so revolutionary?

Robert Adam (1728–92) was one of the most important British architects working in the Neo-classical style and was a main force in the development of a unified style that extended beyond architecture and interiors to include both the fixed and moveable objects in a room. He was a essential Scottish neoclassical architect, interior designer and furniture designer of his century. He incorporated design ideas from ancient Greece and Rome into his forms and decoration. His famous London houses include Kenwood House, Osterley Park and Syon House. Robert Adam developed the "Adam Style", and his theory of "movement" in architecture, based on his studies of antiquity, by contrasting room sizes and decorative schemes.
