(E) In this last page of the book, Cain addresses one of the main themes once more. “Looks can be deceiving.” The author, throughout the book, emphasizes that appearances are not reality. An introvert acting like an extrovert burdens themselves in self-confidence, reliability, and physical and mental health. Although this is the case in most people, other individuals seem self-reserved and quiet, but their inner mind is full with overflowing thoughts and drama. In the excerpt, Cain highlights the tendency for introverts to have a deeper creativity in their mind. Bill Gates, J.K. Rowling, Albert Einstein, and Rosa Parks are one of the many successful individuals who are introverts. Cain addresses Rosa Park as bold and dominant seeing as though
Susan Cain’s Ted Talk The Power Of Introverts brought a new conversation to society in how introverts are treated. Five years ago (when this took place) this topic was not very well discussed, which made this piece very eye opening for some. Using Aristotle's appeals: logos and pathos, as well as a comparative argument in her ted talk, Cain persuades viewers that we as a society oppress/shame introverts, not allowing them to strive or be themselves in our now extroverted society. She advocates for a more balanced society that serves both introverts and extroverts instead of just extroverts.
Having made such important contributions in many fields of work, Cain’s incorporation of well-known figures like Socrates, Steve Wozniak and Albert Einstein contradicts the notion that introversion is something that one should be shamed about nor requires medical attention. Revealing that introverts such as co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak are not incapable to success just because of his introversion, Cain states “the very best of [introverts] are artists…and artists work best alone” (par 21.) One of the preconceived notions society has against introverts is that they are unable to live successful lives, and Cain disproves that notion by referring to well-known reputable individuals from history and popular culture. Her references also engages her readers by taking a modern approach to this widely discussed argument, using figures that are well-liked by younger and older generations. Next, when Cain quotes journalist Winifred Gallagher
Susan Cain’s “Power of Introverts” talk was all about the importance of people who are considered introvertly inclined in our society. In her talk, she described first how her family influenced her in being an introvert. Reading is her family’s social activity and that one can roam around through his or her own imagination. She also discussed about her memorable summer camp story where she has discovered the way extrovert people live and tried to shift in this kind of life. With all these changes in her life she never left her introverted life and espoused the ideas that when it comes to creativity and leadership, the society needs introverts and the things where they excel most. She explained that introversion is how one responds to stimulation including social stimulation which is different from a person being shy – the fear of social judgment.
The article “Introversion: The Often Forgotten Factor Impacting the Gifted” by Jill D. Burruss and Lisa Kaenzig begins by giving examples of how an introvert may behave. The authors continue by explaining that introversion is in not an issue, but a personality type which differs from that of the “normal,” more outgoing and friendly personality type, extroversion. Introverts and extroverts are different personality types, most people fall into one of the two categories. Typically, an introvert’s main focus is in the internal world of thoughts, while an extrovert's main focus is on the external world of people and events. Introverts tend to enjoy alone time, working on their own, and are usually quiet, and extroverts are typically social, enjoy

Cain writes about shyness, introversion, social anxiety disorder, and extroversion. She compares introversion to extroversion. We need equally kinds of people in society. In my experience, people display both characteristics at the same time. The article shyness and evolutionary tactic is an interesting article because the current social judgment favors extroverts but does a disservice to introverts who also make important contributions to sociality.
Books are literary tools used to explain the ideas and the thoughts of an author even if those ideas are serious, entertaining or illogical. In The Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, the author uses the book to portray a message about the characteristics needed to become a successful outlier. Are outliers just people who do not fit into mainstream society because they are above average? How does one become an outlier? The author not only answers lingering questions that the readers have about the title, but he also shows a way to become an outlier through various circumstances and situations. In fact, the author uses several examples to prove his point and continuously persuades the reader throughout the book. As a result, Gladwell explains that talent is not the only advantage to be an outlier, but birthdays, courses, colleges, towns, etc. are just as important in order to be successful. Therefore, the author successfully conveys his message about how true outliers are created in the competitive society by using logical facts to build up his argumentation, creating ethos and pathos for his rhetoric, and establishing a direct connection with the audience through his style of writing.
When given the tasks of choosing a subject, 3 different theorists and there views on personality and having to combine these two in a paper, it seemed not to be to much of a challenge. Until you actually have to sit down and figure out that one interesting person that you then have to describe pleasant traits of but you also have to bring to light their bad qualities. After much contemplation and countless outlines and lists of qualities of different subjects I finally settled on the one subject I felt could provide me with the most information to have a successful paper.
On February the … Susan Cain held a speech about her life as an introvert at a TED conference. In a world designed for the extroverts she stands for more space and understanding for the introverts, who nevertheless make nearly 50% of the entire population.
The author uses metaphor to compare shelter-carry animals to a human population. This comparison implies that introverts always carry a shelter that hide them from the outside world as a protection. Just like any animals, they were born in this way and it means that there are significant to be carried with them. Everything that appears to be useless exist on the world for a reason, and that unique trait becomes the power or tool that helps them through life and help them survive. As the quote suggest, “have been prodded to come out of your shell”, I agree what the author it trying to claim that other people are trying to destroy the nature of introverts. And taking away that protection means deprive their nature and their way of living. Similarly,
Gladwell outlines great successors and the conditions that surround their success in part one of Outliers by explaining the fundamental factors of the people and races he mentioned. Factors such as what opportunities they had, kind of life were they brought up to live such as childhood and much more. Going past what a typical person would look for in a story of success, Gladwell examines every little detail in order to determine the success itself. For example, Gladwell wouldn’t judge a man on whether he went to college or not but had the thinking process of a mastermind. That is because many successors known today lack the practical intelligence but dominates in the analytical intelligence. Hard work is believed to lead anyone to great success in today’s world.
John Watson is known as the creator of behaviorism. Behaviorism is a branch of psychology that focuses on a person’s behavior that’s caused by external factors. Behavior, according to Behaviorism, “can be explained without the need to consider internal mental states or consciousness” (Behaviorism. In learning Theories). In 1920 John Watson conducted what can be considered his greatest experiment. In 1920 John Watson along with Rosaline Rayner began their study of “Little Albert”. Little Albert, as Watson called him, was a healthy child that he attempted to condition by using classical conditioning. This experiment was conducted over the course of four months. Watson utilized classical conditioning to make little Albert fear a white rat. This
