As one of the most watched shows MTV has to offer, “16 and Pregnant” is an influential piece of media being consumed by teenagers across America. The controversy surrounding the influence of the popular TV show places it in an envelope of drastic life situations parents could never imagine their children in. The number of parents who have come in contact with the show have derided it’s cautionary element of it exhibitions of the tribulations that being a young parent places on a child, and refused to let it across their TV screens at home. Parenting to some is the greatest honor, the ultimate goal, but parenting as teens is the harshest possible reality one may perhaps find themselves in. To be a parent not just only means to be the father or mother of a child, but to be a role model who sets the ideals of honesty, love, kindness and empathy. Teen parents being so young, are subjected to a higher degree of difficulty because they themselves are learning who and what they inspire to be. This situation causes a great deal of problems for both the child and parent, therefore why it should not occur. Such a chaotic environment is not somewhere a child needs to be raised, so there must be a solution to this problem. In the U.S “A staggering 750,000 teens get pregnant each year” (Huus, 2010, para. 40), which highlights an area for needed change. Teens need the help dealing with parenting as the difficulties in everyday life for them may be overwhelming. The purpose of this research is to understand the tougher, more strenuous challenges teen parents face in comparison to adult parents. To begin with, one argument that can be made is that teen parents face more strenuous challenges in comparison to adult parents, as teens are not as experienced or wise as adults seem to be due to limited life experience. Moreover, a second argument that can be made is that teens do not have balanced schedules like adults. In like manner, a third argument that can be made is that teens are not as financially stable as adults are.
During the teenage years, there are raging hormones, social acceptance conflicts, developing feelings for the opposite sex, the list can go on for days! The older population tends to have opinions about MTV’s hit show, 16 and pregnant. These mothers suffer from depression, social unacceptance, and often times bullying. The t.v show proves how difficult it is to have a child so young, and overall tends to discourage it.
Teen Mom II is the second incarnation of MTV's number one rated reality series 16 and Pregnant. The show documents the lives of four teenage mothers as they struggle to cope with the burden of childrearing in a financially demanding society while trying to navigate through the journey of adolescence. Once catering to a music oriented teenage consumer, MTV has reinvented itself as a teen reality television powerhouse, with many of its reality shows, including Teen Mom II, consistently dominating in the ratings. Although advertisers eagerly race to gain the attention of the much sought after 18-49 demographic, critics question the stereotypes that may be reinforced through the television program and the negative sociological effects, the
It would be hard for one to dispute the fact that MTV has influenced every pop culture trend since its birth in 1981. One could even say that MTV is pop culture. No other media network holds in the palm of its hand the power to control popular cultural evolution the way MTV does. What other media network has influenced and helped shape public opinion, filmmaking, newsgathering techniques, presidential politics, and world politics like MTV has? In addition to that, MTV can take credit for reconstructing the music industry (Rushkoff 126). One would be hard pressed to find a person who does not enjoy some type of music. Thus, "Music" television was built on a foundation that was virtually united by the whole world, and its popularity was

Although mature adult audiences may understand the differences between reality and reality television, for children and adolescents, differences can be very less clear. Studies have suggested that these images shown on reality television may have a negative impact on adolescent behaviors and values. Due to the popularity of reality TV, young adults are being negatively impacted by the programming with exposure to sex, drugs and unrealistic ideas of reality. MTV Networks (MTVN) has developed a prominent global reputation for its ability to provide content without compromising the MTV culture. However, the company faced its biggest challenge in late 2007 with its launch of MTV Arabia in the Middle East. While the market in the Middle East offered MTV with lucrative business opportunities, the networks controversial content posed the potential to backfire in the conservative environment

When it comes to the topic of TV shows like “16 and Pregnant” promote or discourage teenage pregnancy, most of us will readily agree that it prevents teen pregnancy, Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of has teen pregnancy decrease over the years while airing pregnancy shows. Whereas some are convinced that teen pregnancy has declined nationale because of the program, others maintain that teen pregnancy has increased since the reality show started to air. I disagree with others views that it does promote teen pregnancy because, as recent research has shown, since teen pregnancy has aired nationwide the percentage of teen pregnancy has surprisingly gone down due to the view of the show and seeing what the young mothers have to go through and the responsibilities they have now that they are mothers.
