The RemyCake bakery created a cohesive team and an established clientele and became a staple within the community. Their exemplary customer service and the charismatic presence of their founders created a unique work and customer environment. However, with the recent retirement of the RemyCake bakery founder, a number of issues have arisen. Our Task Force identified the origin of their organizational issues. The following summary addresses and provides solutions for the RemyCake Bakery’s issues of ineffective leadership style, lack of organizational hierarchy, under-developed employee training program, and poor communication at all levels.

Organizational structure is the framework around which the organization is organized, the underpinnings, which keep the coalition functioning. It 's the operating manual that tells members how the organization is put together and how it works. More specifically, structure describes how members are accepted, how leadership is chosen, and how decisions are made (Nagy, 2014). With lives in their hands, hospitals have to function very precisely, executing high-quality services every hour of every day. Organizations that have this sort of requirement usually take on a vertical organizational structure (Feigenbaum, 2015). This type of structure has many layers of management, with most of the organization 's staff working in very specific, narrow, low-authority roles. The numerous layers of management are designed to make sure that no one person can throw the system off too much. This structure also ensures that tasks are being done exactly and correctly (Feigenbaum, 2015).

While completing the readings for the week titled “Experiments in Organizational Structure” I noticed two themes, self-managed teams and organizational culture. There was a clear divide of organizational culture between the companies such as Moosewood Collective and Zappos versus Amazon and Enron. The readings for the week were well-rounded and demonstrated that each culture had positive and negatives. However, research can enhance what organizational culture has been found to be the best culture in creating successful companies, which is not expanded on in the readings. Additionally, some of the readings focused on companies that had no hierarchy and how the lack of hierarchy allows for leaders to emerge. This idea relates to the literature on leadership in self-managed teams and how that may or may not be beneficial for a company. Therefore, this issue paper will critique the organizational structural practices that the companies in the assigned readings have been using. Additionally, this issue paper will add more insight into what has been found in research that can support or add improvements to the organizational decisions the companies in the assigned readings have made.

Founded in 1866, the company was started in Cleveland, Ohio by Henry Sherwin and Edwin Williams. Since then, Sherwin-Williams has become a Fortune Five Hundred company in America in the general building materials sector (Forbes). Even though the company is a decent company for its employees to work for overall, there are a few things that aren’t as strong as they could be within the company. These issues tend to arise because of some of the decisions made by upper management, which in turn negatively affect employee motivation and the overall value of the company.
