Introduction
I. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and the National Institute of Mental Health, roughly six million adults are affected by panic disorder in the United States, with one in every five adults in the U.S. experiencing a mental illness each year.
II. A panic attack is an unexpected occurrence of strong fear when there is no real danger or apparent cause.

Panic disorders were not always recognized as a mental illness.
VI. In fact, it wasn’t until 1980 when the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual III criteria established the concept of panic disorder.
VII. Before then, the panic disorder had been studied independently among the medical and psychological axes (Angst).
VIII. I will be going over the most important aspects of panic disorder which are its origin, symptoms, who is afflicted by it and its cost to society, and the treatments available for those suffering from it.

Now let’s get into the origin of panic disorder.
1. Origin
I. Panic disorder falls under the anxiety disorder for mental health illness.
II. Some factors that are suspected to play a role in the onset of panic disorder are;
a. Environments in which a person is raised,
b. Stressful or traumatic life events,
c. Family history of panic attacks or panic disorder,
d. Major life stress, such as the death or serious illness of a loved one,
e. Traumatic events, such as sexual assault or a serious accident,
f. Major changes in your life, such as a divorce or the addition of a baby,
g. A history of childhood physical or sexual abuse, and

Panic attacks and panic disorder are two very separate things though they are regularly mistaken to be the same exact thing.
XI. Although, panic attacks are the main ingredient for those suffering from panic disorder, the two things that makes them so different is
a. the constancy of which they occur and
b. how it affects the person suffering from it in their everyday lives.
XII. A person can have more than one panic attack in their life, however, to have a panic disorder is when a person often worries about another occurring and has reoccurring panic attacks for more than thirty days.
XIII. This can make the day to day lives of those suffering from panic disorder very hard because they are in constant fear of another panic attack occurring and often stay home to avoid the reoccurrence of an attack.
XIV. One’s doctor or health care provider is required to determine if one has panic attacks, panic disorder or another condition that portrays the same symptoms, such as a heart attack or hyperthyroidism which is an overactive thyroid.
XV. With so many of the same symptoms as other health problems, it is very important for health care professionals to correctly diagnose
