Illegal Immigration

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the evolution and opposing views on illegal immigration.

Thesis: Illegal immigration is a controversial topic that many people do not understand. Illegal immigration has a lot history and has evolved into two different sides: for and against.

Introduction
I. Attention Getter: According to The Department of Homeland Security, there are 11.4 million unauthorized immigrants living in the United States in 2011. (The Department of Homeland Security, 2012)

1. Hacker has made 26 studies regarding the birthing of "anchor babies."(2011) His research was done to demonstrate the extent of the effects of the growing trend on the rest of the nation.
2. A report conducted by Kendall in 201227 provided a thorough examination of how the influx of noncitizen mothers giving birth to children in the United States had have a huge increase in the well fare of the united states.
3. A recent study conducted by Messias, McEwen, and Clark (2015)29 stated that the United States has more foreign-born residents than any other nation.

B. Illegal immigration brings a stronger economy.
1. Low-skilled U.S.-born workers tend to be immobile across regions. The demand for low-skilled labor picks up in North Carolina, native-born workers in other regions are slow to move in (Notowidigdo 2010). This basically means that the native-born Americans have a low-skilled labor making the workforce less competent and that the illegal immigration brings in a bigger labor force.
2. According to Hansen’s remark there is an economic theory that suggests immigration generates a surplus by making capital and land more productive. (Hansen 2012)
