The Career of Engineering
Take a look around yourself. What do you see? Maybe books, chairs, a television, or even your clothes. All the day to day things that are man-made, you can be sure that an engineer helped make it. Engineers have shaped our world as we know it. There are many different kinds of engineers from chemical, mechanical, textile, civil, agricultural and structural engineers. Our civilization would be as advanced as the Stone Age without these people. This career demands a wide education of math and science. It is an ever-changing career with new advances in materials and the way products are produced. Engineering careers are very secure with respect to compensation. Regardless of this, it does have it’s disadvantages

(Britannica 243) Another disadvantage of being an engineer is the actual status of being one. It is not looked upon as highly as other fields such as doctors and lawyers. Most of the time they are looked upon as nerds. In addition, most engineers are not promoted to high level positions such as presidents or top executives. They do not have the accounting or business education to do that particular job. This means that most engineers never get the opportunity to be their own boss. (Basta 22)
The job of an engineer itself is a creative job. The actual definition of an engineer is “The profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize the materials and forces of nature economically for the benefit of mankind.” (Bastas 24) In having the basic skills and experiences in math and science, an engineer is basically an inventor. They are given a problem and are depended on to come up with a solution. Whether it be a new chemical, a mechanical part, or even a whole new system such as computer operating program, engineers are the problem solvers of our materialistic society. (Basta 45)
Many engineers work in laboratories, industrial plants, or construction sites where they inspect, supervise, or solve onsite problems. (Britannica 244) Engineering itself has a sort of chain of command in the way a project is handled. It follows in the
This report will provide the history of career technical education in the United States and relevance of legislative actions, laws, acts and policies beginning as early as the 18th century and continuing through current-day society. Chronologically documented, the primary focus is on the Carl D. Perkins Career Technical Education 2006, its origin, issues and effects of each amendment that led to important federal government legislations. For an understanding of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education 2006 Act, an introduction section will provide information on amended acts, laws, and policies that led to the present act and career technical education. Other sections will discuss time periods of local and national legislation changes in the Carl D. Perkins Act, how they affect the present and future of career and technical education. A brief conclusion of the entire research to include summary findings and references.
When i grow older I want to be a Aerospace Engineer because I have a thing for anything that involves anything that flies. Aerospace engineers work in industries to design and build aircraft, spacecraft, etc. They are primarily involved in manufacturing, design, and development. In order to be an aerospace engineer you will require a bachelor’s degree or anything related to aerospace engineering. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision. (u.s. Bureau of Labor statistics.)
For me, the largest draw to joining the Engineering Honors Program is being able to work with and get to know my professors on a level that I wouldn't be able to in a larger classroom setting. In a large classroom setting, I don't see myself getting many opportunities to interact with my professors outside of office hours, which I still absolutely plan to take advantage of, but being in smaller classes would allow me, and the class as a whole, to have more time to ask our professors questions. On the subject of the other students, I believe that being in honors classes will give me the opportunity to interact with some of the smartest people in my graduating class, and I look forward to participating in that smaller and closer-knit group.
Typically, when someone hears ‘medical field’, automatically you think of people with white lab coats and a stethoscope around their neck ready to take your vitals. Obviously this comes to mind because these doctors and surgeons are the face of the medical field, but in reality there is so much more. There are actually about 300 different occupations one can have in the health care field. A large part of that is nurses. Nurses are the basis of the medical field; they are almost as important as the patients themselves. They have always been a major part of our lives. Nurses have been with us since we first opened our eyes, from birth to broken bones, nurses were there. They have very difficult and extensive careers, they dedicate their lives to their work and to their patients. Some nurses spend long nights away from their family and friends to help others, at times their shifts can last as long as 24 hours. In my opinion nurses are the real super heroes, for this reason I have decided to pursue a major in nursing. I still have a lot to learn and many years of schooling to go, but personally its worth the wait.
Engineers have a choice of three main routes as far as advancement goes. Some advance up the large studio ladder, and become Chief
In this context, the engineer’s competences are not only in demand during the actual process of designing a product, but also concerning the development of technologies, which help to identify customers’ needs (Sabri & Shaikh, 2010). Hence, engineers are involved in research processes as well as they play a crucial role in the management of those projects, guaranteeing a successful accomplishment of innovations.
With so many careers in the world which one is most important? This is asked all the time, well it’s not about which one is most important because a lot of careers are important. It’s really about how much your career impacts the world. Electrical engineers have an impact on the world by what electrical engineers are a part of. They are responsible for anything that is electrical and that is a lot of things in the world today. The reasons they have an impact on the world because people expect the engineers to solve problems in finding another energy source to replace a source that is becoming scarce, to have other tools to help them with their task, to be quicker in making newer things to help advance the world to be high tech, how much
For the longest time I could not decide on a major and a career to study throughout college. When I came to Georgia Southern University I discovered that they had a major that was very interesting to me. Sport Management id the ideal major for my interest and me. Since I love sports I figured that this would be the career for me. A degree in Sport Management helps to prepare for success in sport related occupations.
It is almost impossible, today, to look around you and not see the products of engineering, pretty much regardless of where one may be. In this way, advancements in engineering and its various branches have clearly allowed humanity to develop in immeasurable ways or this would not be the case (Frank C. Whitmore, 1979). However, those who do not have much knowledge of the background processes behind this infrastructure may not realise its impact as deeply or may not realise the impact of engineering at all - despite modern society’s fundamental dependence upon it (National Academy of Engineering, 2001).
Scientists and researchers have existed for thousands of years and some of their work have been able to allow their legacy to live on after they are gone. Some would say they are the embodiment of mankind. Because of their countless hours spent on research and experimentation, they have been able to create and ensure that technology is always improving. Science and STEM related careers are a growing field that requires the same quality, people interested in this field are problem solvers. The majority of scientists and science enthusiasts follow the same basic process also known as the scientific method. They all give the information collected and confirmed to the public for general use and to spread knowledge. With that being said, a marine fisher biologist, the career being interviewed, can easily be looked at and compared to an applied physicist, the career that is being pursued. A marine fisher biologist is a scientist who goes to bodies of water in order to conduct experiments that evaluates the health of an ecosystem. The information collected is significant and important because it affects fishers and shrimpers within that area that depend on harvesting sea creatures as their way of livelihood. A marine fisher biologist are able to determine if the creatures that live in the ocean are healthy and plentiful. An applied physicist is a scientist who conducts experiments that aim to produce new technologies and solve engineering problems. Their research affects about
Engineering is an exciting field that I believe will be enjoyable, challenging, and above all, intuiting to undertake at university. I believe pursuing engineering means exceeding your expectations and making a
Being a Software Engineer is more than just programming. It’s a chance to help other people through the power of technology. Having this as a job gives engineers the power to influence other peoples life through programs that could help them with day to day tasks. Software Engineering is an expanding occupation, which means that more and more jobs are opening up for this position everyday. Also, one of the perks of this job is how much money you make. Software Engineering is a good job because, the market is expanding for it, it pays well, and this job can help other people.
As mentioned above, it is very important for engineers to understand their own responsibilities. In 1960, the Conference of Engineering Societies of Western Europe and the United States of America defined "professional engineer" as follows:1 “A professional engineer is competent by virtue of his/her fundamental education and training to apply the scientific method and outlook to the analysis
Obstacles had never been obstructing my effort to succeed in life. As an engineer to be, it is important to me to be prepared for the hurdles in the real world. The world nowadays needs a person who could compete and has great abilities to stand on the same level as others. Multiple skills and critical opinion of an issue are essential for an engineer to jump into this challenging career. For me, a strategic planning and full preparation need to achieve the aim of being an expert engineer.
Several cases have led to an awareness of the importance of ethics within the engineering profession as engineers realize how their technical work has far-reaching impacts on society. The work of engineers can affect public health and safety and can influence business practices and even politics.’’(Fledderman,2004)
