Imagine you having your own land, and it’s beautiful and it’s a large plain full of green grass. But then all the land you used to own is destroyed and turned into a construction ground just so that they can put in a pipeline. Your land has been taken and destroyed without your consult. How do you feel? Awful right? well that's exactly what's been going on in South Dakota. While some people believe it would benefit the US economically the Keystone pipeline must be halted because of the illegal seizure of Native American lands and because of the illegal seizure of Native American lands and because of the potential environmental destruction in the range.

The keystone pipeline extension was designed to transport fossil fuels to market, fast (Denchak). The production of oil faster would be a good. Yes, the us would gain energy independence and that’s as well one of the goals of the KXL (Eagan). However the Prices for Western canada's heavy crude oil have declined; therefore making the oil companies reconsider their plans for the regions they have set eyes on (“Are Environmentalist Getting it wrong on the Keystone XL”). If oil keeps declining there would be no point in investing money to dig for oil. Environmentalist are also trying to halt the pipeline because “One study found that between 2007 and 2010, pipelines moving tar sands oil in Midwestern states spilled three times more per mile than the U.S. national average pipelines carrying conventional crude (Denchak).” Additionally, TransCanada’s original keystone Pipeline System leaked 12 times (Denchak).
