What it means to be American? Everybody you ask this question to will have a completely different response. Some responses might have similarities but none will be exactly the same. In the beginning of the year my response was “To be an American means having a rich history, having opportunities to better ourselves, and having freedoms.” Unfortunately not everyone has had the same opportunities or freedoms. How does our generation define what it means to be “American”? Being in America gives us the freedom to become who we want to be and, to do what we want to do. We are using technology to get places or to make a point. We want to support things we don’t know anything about. For example, Black Lives Matter. What does it mean to be an American? Some would say it means being born in the United States, attending church, or even watching football. There's much more to this country than any of that. The first amendment is freedom of religion, speech, and expression. Denying marriage to two individuals who love each other is denying them a fundamental freedom.Denying someone for not going to church is also denying them a fundamental freedom. Being an American means accepting others and welcoming them regardless of their religion or sexuality.

Society should be more open minded with the topic of gender identity. Our society does not like rapid changes when they are publicly made; there is always a dispute or an opposition against those unexpected changes. The LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual) community is the “rapid change” that society finds difficult to deal with. Although, this community has always existed, but it has never been publicly recognized like it is today. Gender Identity is a very complicated topic to talk about because it has so many concepts that only those who find themselves as part of the LGBTQIA+ community can fully understand.

Bisexuality is described as having romantic or sexual attraction to both males and females. This means that a bisexual woman can be attracted to either a man or a woman and have a meaningful relationship with either gender. Bisexuality can be transitional but it can also be a stable sexual orientation no different from lesbianism. With transitional bisexuality women typically experience attraction towards men and women but soon identify with either heterosexuality or lesbianism. Their bisexuality is merely a way for them to find out who they are and what they like. Stable bisexuality means that this is not a stage and it will not simply disappear with age. It is a sexuality with just as much stability as lesbianism, their attraction towards men and women will remain constant. Both types of bisexuality exist and are experienced by real women. Stable bisexuality is the more common type and most women who identify with it do not adopt a different sexuality with age. Simply because a bisexual woman may marry a man does not make her heterosexual and just because she may marry a woman does not make her a lesbian. Her sexuality remains the same because her attraction to both genders does not change.
