1) Conflict Perspective: What groups are likely to be threatened by this change? Over what resources are struggles likely to develop? What impact do you think this change will have on different racial – ethnic groups? What changes in immigration laws might we see?
Answer: - European descent people are likely to be threatened by this change because of the decrease in the population of their racial-ethnic makeup in US. Other groups are likely to increase in population percentage. According to (Henslin 293), because of the increase in population around 439 million, the struggles are likely to be develop among people in finding the jobs. Because there will be less than 50 percent people from European descent, the struggle will also arise for making English as primacy language. The impact of this change on different racial-ethnic groups such as on European Americans would be that they might become united with other groups. How might these changed perceptions affect people’s behaviors.
Answer: - People belonging to the majority of the population will consider themselves belonging to the dominant group. European descent population will be on decline and Latinos population will be on rise. Therefore, Europeans will see Latinos as taking over their group. There will be increase in population of other races. These changed perceptions might affect people’s behaviors. People might become united and the barrier of the dominant group will be removed.
